My SIL has a Hummer H2 about that vintage that is getting long in the tooth. That dang thing is the most comfortable vehicle I've ever driven. I told him to never, ever never sell it. When the engine dies, crate it. When the transmission/transfer case dies, rebuild it. When the axle lets go rebuild it. It's cheaper and you can't get that one anymore. It's like sitting in a recliner while driving. He just laughed and said yea, it ain't for sale...

So the drama surrounding my poor Tahoe... ugh.

Got a new motor (reman) supposed to ship today. I am moving up from the 5.3L to the 6.0L LQ9. A few more ponies. Here's my motor:

Trans has been rebuilt with upgraded internals, as well. So my 275k-mile Tahoe will have an all new powertrain, also probably going to replace the AC compressor and dryer, flush the system all at the same time. Since I'm going to keep this truck quite a while longer, I am going to put some effort into fixing up the little things - some interior panels and clips, etc.

It's been since Dec 31st when I blew my head gasket, so I'm definitely looking forward to having my baby back and being able to stretch out a little. I like my 370Z, but it's not something I like for a daily driver. Luckily I don't go far in it most of the time, but the Tahoe is definitely more comfortable. :D

Any plans on re-painting it as part of the restoration? I have an ‘05 Envoy I’m working on.

The motor was 2850 delivered, with programming of my computer. I got it from a guy up in Maine, Bog Brook Automotive. Mine is a basically bone stock 6.0L, so it was a little cheaper than some of what they sell on Ebay and such. They do a lot of souped up stuff, as well.

Oh, and mine's a 2004.
2850 doesn’t sound bad I’m in Tulsa and have a engine hoist if you need to borrow one

It's going to a buddy's shop, that's where my truck is now. He's got a lift and all the equipment we should need. Thanks a ton, though, man.

As for the price, yeah, it ended up saving me... oh, about $600 or so off the same thing from a place in Tulsa I checked with and that wouldn't have been a full long block like this one. Plus I'd have had to transport and program my computer, etc. They weren't very helpful when I called them and it really turned me off. I dislike having people blow me off, so I looked elsewhere and these guys had the right price and timeframe, worked out well for me.

Well, so far. I'm not out of the woods yet, but I am making progress.

New cat converters I hope for the new engine. Wouldn't want to strangle it coming off the blocks.

Speaking of Cat converters, what’s the lifespan of them? I’ve got an ‘05 envoy with original exhaust & converter. Seems to work fine, no holes or leaks found.

Mine's been fine to this point (cat), I don't think I want to drop another $400 or so on something optional at the moment. Shouldn't be any harder to change a month or two from now if I need to than to do it now.

I am thinking change out all the sensors and connectors - knock/detonation, oil pressure, crankshaft, camshaft, temp sensor - all that comes to nearly $300 for OEM parts on RockAuto.

<edit> Oh, and water pump. Debating about motor mounts for the hell of it.

Depends upon the use and misuse of the cats ie. using the right fuels and not idling a lot.
