Step 1, trust no one. There, problem solved lol.

I get it...but if you forged relationships in advance, some of those people would be friends by the time things go south. Surely having some like-minded OSA people would be better than trying to trust new arrivals after a collapse? A lot of the prepper people have made extensive videos on how you can't make it alone for long (or a tiny group), and that the idea you are going to be stationary and just start shootin' at anyone who wanders by, will accelerate your demise. Good people will still have their moral compass (especially if they are not completely starved), so you just have to find like-minded people. If you had a good initial group, I'm sure the council could decide the best way to vet and monitor new arrivals. A probationary period would be important. As bad as it could get, those of us who still fear & respect a higher power would have to find a way to survive without giving up our civility. Of course defense would be important, but the goal would be to setup a functioning gov't within the group once things became a little more stable...hopefully none of this ever becomes necessary and I am not thrilled about having to consider it. But "if" OSA was able to do this, there could be enough of these refuges for justice & stability setup throughout the state that Oklahoma could fare better than areas that went every man for themselves. Your farmhouse won't last long against a school bus full of antifa-types coming out of the Paseo to seek their revenge on the rural people and take your resources.

A bunch of like-minded, regional city-states that basically preserved the rule of law and as much of the constitution, due process and civility as possible would be much better for our children than a road warrior scenario.

Reading Matt Backen's book series right now and more and more of what I read looks more and more like what I see. <sigh>

Yes, he is the best on this stuff...I highly recommend people watch as many of his podcasts on the common tube site with Fernando (TheModernSurvivalist channel). He talks about all these types of scenarios and any one of these over the last few months is great.

He is also a huge proponent of boats...either sail boat to run the coasts, or a houseboat to get back into a river system.

It depends on your plan. Id say for true sustainability, you could get by on as little as 10 acres if you are raising your own beef. Half that if you are ok with just chicken and some pork. That is plenty of room to grow your own veggies, have a couple of wells, and some room to maintain a lineage of meat producing 4 legged critters. If you are wanting to live off wild game, you will need a fair amount more to be able to pursue the game without getting into someone else's land.

The plus side to 5 acres is that monitoring borders would be simpler and is plenty close to tie in security and be able to watch everything from your living room with buried cat6 cable. The downside is how little breathing room there is before someone is on your doorstep so to speak.

I agree, the idea you can keep people from hunting squirrels on your 500 acres when they are starving is much harder unless you have a group. My plan involves being near public land so there are no land disputes that come into play. You still run the risk of bad people out in the bush wanting to rob you or claiming they now own the land, but there is a LOT of public land available and as long as a group hasn't setup there, you should be able to have your few acres nearby and venture out to take game when necessary.

So you seriously think that there won’t be “disputes” on or about public land?!?

I did state that people could say they own it now but you may have missed it?

I think there will be...especially the longer rule of law is absent. But if you are not dealing with complete loonatics, and your group can argue the case, then the argument that whatever was the case before the collapse is still in effect is a good argument. If you are dealing with loonatics, you won't have that option. If I came into an obvious camp, then I'd respect that barrier just to avoid conflict. But if I was on known public land in the middle of the woods with no camp, then it would depend on some variables whether I complied or not.

You beat me to it. I was on Survivalist Boards when he first showed up. The members were not very welcoming and basically ran him off, saying he was lying about his experience. One of the members there who believed him helped him set up the website he has now. It was one of the biggest miscalculations I've ever seen a board owner and group of mods make. He would have been an insanely valuable member of the community. Oh well ... Not my monkeys.

I am impressed that you still think so highly of people in general. I, unfortunately, except for a handful of folks I've actually met, am not quite as trusting. People, in groups of 2 or more, can be quite fickle.

Heck, just watch family during the settling of a loved one's estate. Keep in mind, those are typically well fed people with homes and such.

If people we used to go to the lake with and sit down at a dinner table with are willing to act like that when times are good, you can guess what my expectations are from strangers when times are tough.

I hope for the best but expect the worst...the non-religious people have the advantage that they feel like they can act with impunity (think Negan from walking dead)...I would be hoping that many people in OK would be religious, and therefore have a guard rail that reduced the road warrior element of the collapse.
