Colchicine both helps prevent the attacks and when one does happen, it helps alleviate it. I normally take one pill in the morning and one at night, but I take two (on advice of my doctor) when an attack does occur, and thankfully, it's starting to kick in. The crappy thing about Colchicine is it can cause severe diarrhea. Oh well, I'd rather hit the pot a few times than be all crippled up. 3 of the things would sideline an elephant with the Hershey squirts I'd bet.

I found out I had gout back in 2014, it was crippling. didn't know from one day to the next if i was going to be able to walk. meds have it under control unless I eat lots of processed foods. pretty much anything prepackaged, wild game including domestic turkey. Anything high in purines.

Joel, I second the Allopurinol and cherry juice. Instead of cherry juice, I take 2 Tart Cherry Extract capsules that I get from Walmart. The allopurinol is a preventative and knock on wood haven't had a flair up in several years. Mine is limited to my toes/feet but it'll sure get your attention when flairs up!

I have had gout twice in one foot and once in the other, once in the wrist. I know your pain. I take 300mg of allopurinol daily and have not had a recurrence in about 8 years. Allopurinol is usually the first thing they put you on when diagnosed. Have not had a grapefruit in years and I loved grapefruit. Diet does a lot. Doc did a biopsy of my big toe once when it was swollen (with a BIG needle and no anesthesia!)
He did not even send to lab the crystals were so big you could see with the eye.

Get better!

For the RA, have you tried turmeric, curcumin, or this new stuff called Longvida?

I take tumeric now. I'll look up the Longvida. Thanks. I'm tempted to get a card and start taking RSO. Especially now -- I have neuropathy on my foot and ankle (surgery), under my chin (surgery), around my right eye and bridge of my nose (surgery), the back of my head (surgery) and across the upper half of my back (****ing tree) ... Mornings around here are ... Ahem ... Problematic -- even with me taking 1800mg of gabapentin before I go to bed. Lol

The Longvida stuff isn't cheap but it feels as strong as Ibuprofen for me.
