Colt 1911 in .45 was my first pistol...

A Colt 1911 was the first gun I ever shot when I was in 4th grade. Dad thought it might discourage me from wanting to shoot ... that didn't work so well. That was the gun I later sent to Austin Behlert to work his magic on. First gun I could legally buy in 1978 was a 45ACP Browning BDA. Still have it, box and manual. Still a great shooting gun too.

No. The .45ACP will be around for as long as there are metallic cartridges.

Where does this lunacy come from? Laughed at an online debate about a year ago, stating that the .30-06 was "obsolete". That, and the .308, because these new "boutique" rounds are supplanting them. Sorry - no. All of the frilly little "Creedmoors" and "SPCs" will never supplant the '06 and .308, and the .45ACP is here to stay as well.

Really it comes from the fact a lot of people can not shoot the 45 well, but it is not the round or the guns chambered for it. It is that the 45 takes a lot more practice to shoot than the 9mm. Plus you can carry more 9mm than 45 ammo. Same reason the army switched to the 5.56 and 9mm. Easier to train city boys that had never fired a gun before on milder rounds.

I just can't make myself take the time to read the article.

I can imagine what it's like and I'm really not interested in reading a clickbait article written on a worn out subject.

Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. [emoji16]

I originally was a big fan of the .45 but switched to 9mm, after trying many different calibers, about ten years ago.

For me the improvement of 9mm self defense loads, plus higher capacity, and less cost for practice ammo just makes sense for a carry caliber.

If I could keep every gun I wanted to, I would have a few .45s I'm sure, but between keeping my collection small and consolidating calibers, it doesn't work for me.

I certainly understand why the .45ACP has it's fans and I don't believe it is in danger of disappearing anytime soon.

I don’t think most of you read the article. There is no lunacy. He makes several intelligent points, then basically concludes that the .45 is NOT NEARLY AS OBSOLETE AS SOME MIGHT THINK.

In other words, he agrees with you!

Just to reaffirm my previous post, they write this stuff because they ran out of stuff to write about. My point is not that we are all in agreement or not, but that his article is something he puked up from previous repeated material. I think I've read almost all the material in this article at least 9 or 10 different times just rearranged each time; some of them by this same author.
