I sold my 45s because I could not go to the range enough to stay proficient with them. Heck it has been so long if I am past gunfight range I suck. I do like the 45 even if I am more a revolver guy. The Smith 1917 is my favorite handgun of all and I would love to have one again.

When he boasted about a service pistol that had twice the on-board cartridge capacity of ours, I replied, “That’s one way to look at it. Of course, you guys have 115-gr. 9mm duty ammo, and our .45 pistols take a 230-gr. load. Your officer and mine each have the exact same amount of lead in hand to inject when they draw their guns, but mine injects a double dose every time they pull the trigger.

One of the best things I've read in a while

Let's face it. The title of Ayoob's article is pure clickbait. I stand by my previous analysis of the article.

I don't own a .45, but I always perceived the one's I've fired as having similar or less recoil than my 9mm Glocks because it felt like a slow "push" rather than a snappy "kick".

That’s exactly why my wife prefers to shoot my 1911 Kimber vs her 9 mm.
If SHTF, that .45 will be first in my hand with one in the tube and an extended 10 round magazine because I can shoot it more accurately.

A Colt 1911 was the first gun I ever shot when I was in 4th grade. Dad thought it might discourage me from wanting to shoot ... that didn't work so well. That was the gun I later sent to Austin Behlert to work his magic on. First gun I could legally buy in 1978 was a 45ACP Browning BDA. Still have it, box and manual. Still a great shooting gun too.

I had a Browning BDA 45 too. I liked the concept but the grip angle was not friendly to me like my Springfield 1911. In other words I couldn't hit crap with the first or second shot like I could with all the shots with the 1911. The BDA was too upright for me. I had to cock my wrist up at an unnatural angle. Great gun for the guy I sold it too. He loved the grip angle. To each their own.

I just can't make myself take the time to read the article.

I can imagine what it's like and I'm really not interested in reading a clickbait article written on a worn out subject.

Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. [emoji16]

I originally was a big fan of the .45 but switched to 9mm, after trying many different calibers, about ten years ago.

For me the improvement of 9mm self defense loads, plus higher capacity, and less cost for practice ammo just makes sense for a carry caliber.

If I could keep every gun I wanted to, I would have a few .45s I'm sure, but between keeping my collection small and consolidating calibers, it doesn't work for me.

I have a 14 shot 45 I carry daily with 13 more on my left side ready to go at a moment's notice.

I certainly understand why the .45ACP has it's fans and I don't believe it is in danger of disappearing anytime soon.

My SHTF handgun will definitely be a 1911...either a 24 year old Wilson or my first Integrity Arms custom build.:thumb:
