I’m actually trying to cancel the order now. I’d much rather find a powder that is good for both powders. Soooooooo it’s back to square one.

Lots of considerations here.

TCM is on a burn rate chart ....

https://www.longrangeonly.com/forum...on-powder-burn-rate-chart-november-2019.7402/

.... #53 and Alliant 2400 is #54. 2400 is a slower burning powder used for heavier loads for stout cartridges such as 357/44 magnum. The Speer reloading manual #10 also lists 2400 as a load for 38 Special +P loads, but only for jacketed bullets.

Since 2400 is right next to TCM on the burn rate chart, I would assume TCM could also be used for 38 Special +P loads. But since there is no extant load data for that use, I would definitely contact Accurate.

However, other considerations enter in. Secondary Explosive/Explosion Effect, for example.

Or, we could just go old school on the whole thing. Elmer Keith style. He reputedly would take a powder. Any powder. And keep adding powder to the load until his gun blew up. Then he'd back off 10%.

In the OP's case, if I could not cancel the order, I'd reserve the powder for a specified cartridge.

I have used 38 special cases many times in my 357 Revolvers..I do not own a 38 special weapon of any kind.

I have never had any failed 38 or 357 cases.
I have loaded the Lee 158 gas checked bullet in 38 cases with 12.5gr and 13 gr of 2400 many times but I seat the bullet longer just like the length of the 357 magnum round.
You could not use it in a 38 as it would be too long to fit and close the cylinder.

There is the 38/44 which is a higher pressure round that uses 38 cases in a stronger gun.
If I had the powder i would load the minimum start.

Here is a load from accurate web sight.
That is a jacketed bullet and if you shoot lead the velocity will usually be higher.
158 SPEER JHP start load 10.3 982 fps 12.1 gr. 1,232 33,846 1.580.

That 10.3 gr load would not bother me in the least in my 357 with 38 cases and my lead cast bullets.
Last note is my Lee 158 gr gas checked alox lubed bullet weighs 170gr and that is what I shot in 38 cases with the 12.5 and 13 gr 2400 loads.

Dongs in Tulsa supposedly has reloading powders. I’m gonna try there Wednesday. Hope his prices aren’t crazy.......

You never know about Dongs from one week to the next.
It may be priced decent, but require you to buy bullets at a crazy price to sell you the powder.

Jerry’s is a much better place in that area, IMO.
