I have a very severe flinch reflex so they will have to sedate me very well.

I'm 40 so no cataracts (yet). When I had the prk Lasik or whatever the put drops in and a cup like spreader that basically blacked everything out before the laser. I'm sure yours is different but the only issue was the smell, and I was a lucky one who had a reaction to the drops, that was just a really bad stinging sensation after, which is really rare they said. So they called in something.

I have no idea how you guys deal with the shots etc coming at your eyes. I’d have to be knocked out. I can’t even do visine. Just the thought of eye surgery freaks me out.
It really sucks when the DR inserts the speculum that prevents blinking and then bullshats with the nurse while waving that needle in front of your eye that is soon to be violated.

I was awake for both wisdom teeth extraction and LASIK. Dentist was a retired Navy Dentist, he said as long as you don't mind hearing popping and cracking you'll fine. That went well......LASIK was done in Edmond in 2009, he asked if I needed a something to relax, I declined and told them I relax any more than I already am I'll fall asleep and wet myself. LASIK was a great choice, no regrets. Tons of folks in their 40's and 50's are doing the lens replacement just to get rid of readers. I guess they figure they're going to need it eventually for cataracts anyway most likely at some point, might as well enjoy for as many years as possible.

My eyes are extremely sensitive. Eye doctor told me years ago I was not a good candidate for contacts. I tried them anyway ... in his office. He put them in my eyes and told me to walk around and try them for about thirty minutes. I was back within ten minutes asking him to get them out of my eyes! I never could put drops in my own eyes. When I was getting ready for cataract surgery last year, I finally got to where I could put drops in my eyes. You'd better. You're gonna' be using LOTS of eye drops! The surgery itself was no big deal. I did it with mild sedation. Didn't really see or feel anything. The eye Doc, anesthesiologist, and nurse were talking among themselves and to me throughout. No biggie.

That's me! I have tried contact twice. I just cannot touch my eyeball to put anything in or on it. I showed the doctor I could rip my eyelid off the little hold open clamps multiple times. The contacts at the time were weighted at the bottom so they would stay in the correct orientation. Every time I blinked those damn things rotated then swung like a pendulum until they righted themselves. I almost puked my guts out trying contacts. Never again.

I've always managed to get conjunctivitis rather easily. If I'm around smokers, I get it, stay awake more than 24 hrs, put in contacts... For me to have eye surgery, I'll need to be unconscious, or I'll be getting violent to get away. The puff of air during an eye exam makes me want to inflict pain on them.

My experiences were the same as Terry’s. The number of drops was a large fascination to me and I tried to count on the second eye, but was so sedated (relaxed) that I lost count after what I thought was 30.
