My wife has a recipe that kills them quick and keeps them gone.

Maple syrup, and either Borax, or Boric Acid. Mix the two together and put it on their trail where they will see it and smell it. They take it back to the nest where the rest of the crew eats it and it kills them all. I didn’t believe it would work till I saw it.

I haven't tried Borax, but boric acid powder works, and it's pet/kid safe. I've used it (packaged as Roach Ridd) to great effect against the little buggers that tried to invade my kitchen.

I should note that it is not entirely pet/kid safe if you're a dumbass with it; in large enough quantities, it's deadly to everything (it's even fungicidal), but it only takes a tiny amount to be deadly to ants, far less than would be dangerous to mammals. You put it down where they'll walk through it, so they carry it back to the nest. When they groom each other, they ingest it, and it kills the nest.

Little ant bastages get into the cabinet where I keep my cereal boxes. No way do I want to have Kellog's Ants 'n Bran or Ant Flakes for breakfast!

Yall sound like you need to replace the door foams and stuff some window screen in your brick vents.

I spread coop amdro every year. I've had good luck, ymmv. Just wish it'd chase away the black widers

You should be able to get a liquid Tempo at any feed store or maybe Tractor Supply or Atwoods, and it’s a more “industrial” insecticide and kills a lot more than just ants. It should have more residual too.
Tempo for the win. Terro only targets ants.
Tempo kills everything including spiders. It's safe to use in schools, restaurants, etc according to the label if applied correctly.
It sets up a barrier with a two week or longer residual effect even if it gets rained on. I spray around windows and doors, front porch, back porch, garage door and any cracks or crevices outdoors.
We lost two oak trees with several damaged from the black carpenter ants. Tried Amdro and a couple other big box store pesticides with no success.
30 minutes with tempo sprayed on the trunks of trees and a band of ground around them eliminated them completely.
I get mine at the local COOP. You can get it in small doses that do only a gallon. A gallon will go a long way around a home. You won't have any bugs period.
