I was talking with a builder today. He said six months ago he ordered a wood load out for a house and it was $28,000.
He said he just ordered the same load out and it is $80.000. He said home were being built for $150 sq. ft. now they are up to $280 sq. ft. for the same size home.

Holy crap

Maybe Biden has created these tariffs with the object of getting tariffs removed worldwide. He'll remove them with any country that will also remove their tariffs on US products. Playing 4D chess and such.

I'll bet that's it, we just can't see Biden's true brilliance, yet.

I seriously doubt any of us here understand the complexities of international trade.

What I think is correct is that we have a President who knows how to negotiate by throwing opponents off-balance and even using some fright techniques.

A cynic would say that past Presidents made themselves feel good by swallowing the one world new economy rhetoric while at the same time accepting lucrative post-office speaking fees and similar disguised bribes. Both parties seem to have been guilty of this.

Over the past several decades, the world has changed thanks to super inexpensive containerized sea-land cargo shipping. Goods can be made where the labor is cheapest. I'm not denying this, but it appears we have gone too far in allowing other countries to protect their industries with tariffs instead of letting free-market economics rule.

Here, but occasionally There.
I wonder how much of an affect the "pandemic shutdown" of businesses had on prices of lumber? We are doing or Summer work gig here in Alabama, and the logging trucks are EVERYWHERE. So far, we've not been on any somewhat major road without seeing semi-trucks with logs heading to the sawmills and paper mills here. We worked a road the other day that runs by a Georgia Pacific paper mill. That got my interest up, so I did some looking and found that there are 20-some paper mills just here in Alabama. We are also seeing a goodly number of semi-trucks with finished dimension lumber and plywood. Less noticeable, but still here are semi-trucks hauling out round posts.
