So I saw some videos about this the other day, and it seems like exactly what I am looking for. I typically chase hogs with my Ruger American Ranch in 762x39, which has a 16” barrel. My current compensator isn’t terrible, but with such a short barrel it really gets loud, and I don’t wear hearing protection while hunting. I figured some sort of a blast diverted would send the majority of that noise towards the target, rather than around me. Think it could be effective? I’ve seen some videos for it, but I’m just not 100% convinced it’s worth my coin, and I don’t know if I wanna spend the premium for a suppressor and the extra weight that comes with it.
What do you guys think?

If you only care to direct the sound away and don't need the brake effect to manage recoil, something like a Noveske KX3 is what you'd want. Not sure if they make them in the threading for 7.62x39, though. You DO want a Noveske one and not a cheap clone like KAK since the Noveske design uses a literal suppressor style baffle to function correctly.

I run a KX3 on an AR pistol and it literally blows all the noise away from you. No concussion or blast wave. Makes shooting a 10" barrel feel like shooting a 20" one.

*Edit - Apparently there is something called a Bulgarian Booster that is very close in design to the KX3 but meant for your x39 caliber.

my threading is a standard 30 cal 5/8x24. The recoil is minimal, but I’m not opposed to mitigating it either.

I don’t see that being a big help in mitigating audible muzzle blast. Maybe a few decibels, but not near enough to negate hearing protection being used.
I have a TACCOM 9mm upper that has a system similar and it sure doesn’t reduce muzzle blast.

I suspect the KX3 is a bit better due to the baffle, but it's not $100 better and I don't have to worry about carbon buildup in my KAK Flashcan or maintaining the threads, snap ring or anything else. Solvent and a brush without unscrewing anything is awfully easy. The KAK is solid for the money spent. (no pun intended)

Both will do well at directing sound down range but I'd still wear some earpro.

Due to the frequency of the sound made by firearms, it'll still be above safe hearing levels with any type of diverter. At best it will reduce it to the -3db return wave.

It sounds like you are a perfect candidate for a suppressor. Once you have used one and REALLY seen what they can do, even on calibers that are not subsonic, you'll wonder how you ever shot without one.

I fought the idea that I had to pay the gummermet that tax fee to buy a can.
Finally swallowed my pride and ponied up the money.
It's tough to shoot without a can now. Only have one that gets swapped around, but that works for me.
