Tenkara is a highly useful technique among others used in small streams to pinpoint where you want the fly when casting is impossible.

Gorgeous shot Dennis. I don’t see myself doing much stream fishing, partially because I don’t know of any good ones in Oklahoma. All the ones around me in central ok are just muddy ditches. Any suggestions? Or tips for fly fishing for panfish, esp in ponds/lakes? I picked up a few panfish poppers and grasshoppers today, as well as a few assorted dry flies.

where did you get your setup? You got me interested now. Never liked the normal fly fishing rods but could probably get into Tenkara.

has a great deal of knowledge, and is a great resource. I purchased my setup from https://www.tenkararodco.com/collec...MIvaiw9YiM8QIVtey1Ch0QGwCKEAAYASAAEgJV1_D_BwE . Free shipping, (or $12 for 2 day air) as well as having a full kit ready to ship was a big perk for me. I also heard great things about the brand. I can post up a review on here after I get it on Friday I hope.

I do mostly high country streams in colorado and New Mexico, although this summer I'll be fishing and traveling in Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, Montana and South Dakota. Amazing that most of the camp grounds will be near fishing areas.
Tankara is best around pond or lakes with weeds or brush around the banks. Although it's been compared to cane pole fishing on here, it's much more technical because of the line and equipment used that make putting the fly into small pockets at a short distance and moving the fly easier. The lower or upper Illinois and the Lower Mountain fork in Ok are great streams to fish using the fly. The ODW stocks areas around the state in the winter for trout. Some close to your location.
Not every scenario is the same though as you will find out. Small panfish require one rigging and larger fish being the target require another.
The same with fly fishing. I hesitate to call it conventional fly fishing as nothing is conventional depending on the specie being targeted.
The 3wt I use on cutthroat and browns in Colorado would snap catching the browns and rainbow in Missouri. The 5wt used there would snap if used on tarpon in the gulf.
There is so much to learn.

No, you should be safe. This board and the state of Okrahoma seems to be firmly anti Asian, but by golly, if you post anything about mexicans, they’ll drop the hammer on you.:rolleyes2

This State and this Country is not Anti Asian. This is just some race baiting fantasy of the media and left to get us all hating each other. Those are the groups that promote hate.

Where is Garrett?!?!?!

I`m still here, just been busy...

Yes Sir, a little bit...

We went to Arkansas last week and had fun until we didn`t...The Wife broke her ankle on a trail at Black Bass Lake in Eureka Springs and we had to cut that trip short. She had surgery on Monday back here in Tulsa to repair the fractures so I`ve been running back and forth to the hospital.

I`m new to Tenkara as of this Spring and love it.
I rarely carry my ultralight rigs with me these days...
