We do cmml and industrial work exclusively. Have a couple machine shops as regular customers. For some reason they all say "Don't get your ladder out we have a ladder you can borrow".... yea right. Those things are always warn out busted and extremely slippery. Add working overhead, live, bare handed..... No thank you.
The welding area in this shop back in the day built a buss with boxes every 20' or so. At every box they stripped about a foot of insulation in the buss wiring and started adding pigtails about a foot long with brass compression connectors. (the name slips me now) I've been in a lot of dangerous situations in my life but none surpassed live wiring those welding machines in with the pigtails. Total and complete fear using the wrenches I'd wrapped in dry cardboard as insulation. The old guys before me did it all the time. Why was I so scared I was told by supervisor. I understood high voltage and what it could do to the human body with prior training from another source.
Fast forward ten or so years, OSHA was around and doing inspections which were BS using college students in the electrical engineering field. They should have used field electricians. Told us our electrical systems were good. LOL, there were disconnects with copper tubing in them that they never opened. Electrical supervisor got a bonus at the end of the year for reducing costs so he didn't care as long as his checkbook got a hit.
One of if not the most dangerous occupation in the workplace. Get wrong with electricity, it will kill you.

If I'm imagining it correctly its a tap lug maybe (or that's what wee call it) Burndy, Polaris NSI make real popular ones mechanical and crimp. Could you imagine the available fault current? if something happened it would just explode.

Especially since the odds of the generator in question being 3 phase is slim to none.
agreed but the op called for info on a three phase gen so that is the info he should get until he calls for a better understanding. like i said my 7000 watt gen will make three phase if i want just by rotating a switch. so although unlikely it isn't impossible.
