We had one of those at the other house. It was tree/shrub like and would keep it green leaves well into the fall. It was easy to keep any size we wanted but since it was near a west facing entry, we let it grow rather tall. It got what looked to be a disease and I took it out. A stalk grew up almost where the old one was. We let it grow and it did fine. Never did find out what it was.

If you have an iPhone or iPad, you can try the PictureThis app. You snap a pic of the leaves and load it into the app, and it comes up with a possible ID. It seems to be accurate about 3/4 of the time in my experience.

I ran the pics in this thread through my app and this is what it came up with.
