So you guys are saying not to get the self sticking, underlay or tape?

All I used was flooring that already had an underlay on the underside of each piece. No tape, nothing else. I wouldn’t go with the kind that sticks, as others have stated. I know they do make waterproof laminate flooring, but I don’t know if that stuff needs tape or a sealant in between the pieces. Ask the Lowe’s or HD employees about that if you go look there.

Yep the underlay is for more cushion and to help with quieting it down. More cushion is not a bad thing when you fall a lot. The tape is to join the underlay together. That said I miss figured the underlay so will need to add a little more.

Not sure what your budget is but there are all kinds of adds on Craigslist by people that install the click flooring. Might want to get a couple estimates and see if you even want to mess with it.

No noise issue with ours. It just fits together like tongue and groove. No underlayment, no sticky, no nothing. Directly on top of concrete floor. And, part of ours had to be pulled back up for crack repair, then laid back down! If I hadn't told you, you would never know it!

We might look into that but will probably only be able to budget about $400 at most for labor. Depends on materials cost and if I need to buy a cheap miter saw. Cheaper to buy one at Harbor Freight than to rent one and as little need as I have for one an el cheapo should do the job.

So on these 'free floating' type of floors, do you have noise when you walk on it? Seems I remember some of these in the past that did, that may be an old problem and newer stuff doesn't do that, I dunno.

The Wife and I both dislike wood floors, or even wood-look flooring. I'd rather have ceramic throughout.
Ours had noise. It was terrible. So much so that we made the installer remove it, then glue the wood down to the concrete slab. No problems since.
