Eco diesel in a newer jeep only 24 MPG.
That MPG is Oldsmobile 350 diesel MPG actually a little less.
That eco diesel makes 2x more HP and 2X more TQ than the Oldsmobile though.

I would bet a revamp of some of that power could possibly get you a 40+MPG diesel Jeep
That ecoDiesel also didn't singlehandedly poison the well for diesels in passenger cars in the US, either...

Nephew works in an auto shop in Tulsa. He said it's crazy how many people buy a 3/4 or 1 ton 4x4 brand new off the lot and then bring it to him to put another $10-20,000 of wheels, tires, lift kit, lights, stereo and many other extras on a $50-70,000 dollar vehicle and it never sees dirt. Blacktop only. Most don't want the wheels, tires, bumpers and other stuff he takes off of them and he makes a killing selling the extra parts.

Something that always comes to mind when I hear these sort of things is 'There are a lot of people that have more money than they have good sense'.

Here, but occasionally There.
Interesting idea of removing the DEF. My understanding of the diesel with DEF is that if the DEF runs out in the vehicle, the engine won't run but about half speed. I can't say from personal experience because my Ford F450 is a pre-DEF diesel.

The L5P, newer HD Chevy Duramax, will stop running without DEF and leave you stranded. Last I heard, it’s about $6000 to delete the DEF and DPF. It’s at a complete reprogram of the computer. Ship off the computer, they reprogram and send it back. The EPA has cracked down and is fining the shops that are doing this kind of stuff. Just search YouTube.
