A good question that seems to be of little or no concern for our elected officials. I was finally able to get a Real ID by going online at Edmond Downtown Tag Agency at exactly 9 am on a Friday morning to book an appointment for the following week. My girlfriend has renewed her regular DL online but has received nothing yet. We seem to continue to tolerate pathetic service by a lot of state agencies.

Thankfully my license is valid through 2023. Hopefully they'll have all of this junk worked out by then. We usually go to Woodcrest Tag Agency for stuff and they've only been taking 12 appointments for DL/Real ID for quite some time now. Folks have to physically go there and get in line before 9 am to maybe get an appointment. If you're 13 in line you're out of luck.

I applied online at my.ok.gov for renewal of my drivers license on 4/13/21. It was to expire on 5/31/21. Received acknowledgement and case number. On 5/14/21 I emailed a status inquiry to [email protected]. Received a prompt acknowledgement stating that it would take 60+ days. On 5/25/21 sent another status inquiry and asked if it is OK to drive on an expired license? Promptly received a reply from [email protected] and she said that she would process the renewal that day and it should arrive by mail soon. Received the license a week or so later. This was not a real ID. I am 78yo and have had an Oklahoma drivers license since I moved here in 1977. Pretty routine! Apparently the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Thank you for this update. I just emailed the help desk and asked about the status of mine and my wife's driver license renewals. Hopefully this will get things rolling.

It's 60 days out to get a permit test for my 16 year old. She is not happy. This is insane.

Many small tag agencies have simply said the hell with all this and quit the DL business entirely. The fines etc. are nuts if they screw up any part of it.

I had no idea that it was nearly impossible to get a DL renewed. Mine expired at the end of April.

I had noticed the last few times I had been in the tag office that there was a sign stating that DL renewals now required an appointment so about mid-April I called the tag agency that I use to set an appointment for my renewal.

They didn't even answer the phone. I just got a message that said they weren't taking anymore appointments until after the end of May.

I called four more tag agencies before I found one that could get me in on the last day of the month. They charged me a non refundable fee of $4 just to make an appointment. Mind you that I'm not trying to get a fancy Real ID version. I just want a regular old fashioned driver's license like I've had since 1976.

In the meantime someone told that I could renew my DL online so I jump through all the hoops to get it done and pay my $40 fee. Only after I pay my fee does it tell me that it will be at least 30 days before they get back to me with a "decision" on whether or not to renew my DL. Of course I cannot get anyone on the phone so I send an email stating that my license expires at the end of the month so I either need a DL before then or a refund of my $40.

I don't hear anything back from the State so I keep my appointment at the tag agency to get my license renewed. It all goes well, except they got to me a little late because there was a little old lady ahead of me that was getting her Real ID, even though her license was no where near expiring and the deadline for requiring a Real ID had been extended for two more years. I knew all of this because the little old lady proceeded to chat with the office girl about every detail of her recent history, witch I could hear even though I was all the way across the room.

The staff was very friendly but it cost me another $38 because, of course, the system doesn't show that I have already paid online. I leave there with a piece of paper that looks like a blown up copy of my new DL but no actual DL like the good old days when times were apparently much more simple. They tell me that I'll get my new DL by mail after three weeks.

I send another email to the DPS telling them that I got my license and asked for a refund of the $40 that I paid online. It's nearly two months later and I haven't gotten any reply to my emails but I did finally get my DL in the mail which makes me look like some scofflaw because it states in the upper right hand corner "NOT FOR REAL ID PURPOSES".

Be sure you read the information about all the documentation that is required to prove who you are in your own country. If you don't have it the process stops right there.

more fun and games brought to you by our worthless polytickans ans national leaders

The rollout of the "Real Id" is a complete train wreck. Was able to get mine renewed by going to a tag agency at 8am and waiting for about 5 hours. That was in early March. I's gotten a lot worse since then. Applied online for the wife's about 5-6 weeks ago. Haven't gotten anything back yet. We can only hope the local law enforcement is lenient with given out tickets for expired license.
