Fun little bit of info: The Israeli Defense Force has in the past (and still does) uses marksmen with Ruger 10/22's for "less than lethal" crowd control.

Well using that math, they shot 7 MILLION 22 rounds in 16 months. That's 14,583 per day. Jeez.
These are probably .22 caliber rimless “non lethal” rubber bullets if I had to guess. That would explain the high cost and why they’re used to shoot into a crowd.

I'm thinking need to get 17HMR and 28 gauge shotgun due to easier access to ammo, lol.
Actually a couple weeks ago I was in owasso Walmart and the only ammo they had was 28 guage lol I had to look twice I guess what I was thinking more on was more of a survival situation as diggler pointed out it wouldn’t be a good choice if you had to fight to survive but if it was the only thing you had it’s better than nothing I suppose

The IDF refers to the .22lr as a “less lethal” option as compared to 556/223. Not non lethal. They have used 22 caliber (.223) rubber bullets in the past too. There’s plenty of documentation of them using 10/22s against people.
