I have one in my 1995 corolla glove box that the wife used when she drove the car.

@swampratt Knowing how you seem to collect stuff (or stuff seems to have a way of collecting you :)) I've got a 8 track to cassette converter and one CCR 8 track tape sitting here you can have if you want it.

I cannot, for the life of me, understand a THIRD Sports Radio station in OKC.

WWLS "The Sports Animal" has a really big market share (I assume) and The Franchise OKC has cut/replaced so many hosts over there years that they have be losing money. I swear I think that they have like 4 hosts for the entire day.

And now a THIRD sports radio channel is coming in...I just do not get it.

ANYTHING is better than every station having a car sale ad going with the GREATEST DEAL OF YOUR LIFETIME advertised every weekend!! I want to go blow up big red Kia and their announcer. Honestly, I have went through all 6 preset stations before with every single one playing a car commercial. I guess car dealers are the only ones spending advertising money. I'm pretty cheap so use Pandora from my phone streamed through Bluetooth in my pickup. BUT, those stations repeat alot too so have to keep changing genre or do a shuffle of multiple stations. Guess nothing is perfect.

All that being said I only listen to NPR (KGOU KOSU) and WWLS The Sports Animal, though, frankly, i can do without Al Eschbach. I think that guy is weird and creepy.

Agreed with the same 20 to 30 songs. I listen to Spotify Free and it's a lot better for music than iHeart. IHeart seems the want to quit at random times during the day and just will not start again unless I completely reset the phone by powering it off and on. Sometimes that doesn't even work. I'm always amused at the iHeart concert they advertise. Do they run up on stage and stop the music like their service? Spotify doesn't carry the radio stations though. With iHeart, I can get radio stations all over and can listen to Pheonix or Dallas of New York talk shows.

@Hangfire I used to have one of those and an under dash 8 track player.
I used to have 8 tracks and still have tons of cassettes but most are done for and the sound is up and down up and down.

I do not like to keep extra junk like 8 tracks or cassettes in my vehicles.
I do not need music that bad.
I have been fixing this old crack house on 13th and may and I do not have a radio or anything in there while working to make noise.

I have worked decades by myself and no noise needed except my self.

I did make up something yesterday while talkin to myself.

Lets say you disowned all your crack head family and hated your name and you became successful and owned a heat and air company.
You want to change your name and the name you chose is Max.
Last name Cool.
HA!!! Max Cool.

I told the guys at the cam shop that yesterday and one guy said GET A RADIO!

HA.
I told my wife and she said if you had an Electrical company you could be Max Power.

:)

When I patrol at night, my favorite radio station to listen to is 94.7 The Brew. I think they play the perfect combo of classic rock, alternative and grunge. I was just listening and they played this big long commercial about how they are now becoming The Ref, a new sports radio talk show.

:pissed:

I'm not a huge sports fan. I don't enjoy watching sports on television and I despise listening to sports on the radio. So now, I gotta find another station to enjoy. Sadly, I've searched the dial and I can't find a station that offers what The Brew did. They either play too much kiddy pop music or too many dead guys. I like stuff like Kiss, Skynyrd, SRV, Nirvana, Judas Priest, Motley Crue, ZZ Top, The Doors, STP, Soundgarden, etc. No other station I've found plays all that.

Sorry guys and gals. I just needed to ***** for a minute. :grumble:

I hate news/talk stations and sports talk. I don't listen to any of that. Your music tastes are similar to mine. I guess talk and sports are where the money is. I bought a new truck and it doesn't have a CD player. Still mad about that. Yes, I know you can download a thumb drive and did that, not the same though!!

When my son was out of town and we took care of stuff I enjoyed his Amazon 80's classic rock music. I might get Sirius for $5 month.

Sometimes if a radio group has and underperforming station they'll use it to go after a competitor that beats their primary station. It may very well have nothing to do with a third of the same format making any sense.

For example "RADIO GROUP A" has a country and a rock station in their portfolio. The rock station does OK, but has never been anything extraordinary in the ratings or has been steadily declining. The country station does very well but is constantly being challenged by a sports station owned by "RADIO GROUP B."

RADIO GROUP A, right near the beginning of OU football season an during an uptick in a pandemic where many people will not be able to attend a game in person decides to flip the underperforming rock station into a new sports station (which looks to me to basically be a simulcast of an already in-place network across the state.) That makes it super affordable to launch. The new station will have at least some minimal ratings which will take some ratings points from the other sports stations which help their country station.

I don't know the above to be the exact scenario, but it's probably something like that. The point is, radio groups don't always launch a new station because they think that's what the markets needs.
