I have had a good number of nice vehicles over the years, but there are three that I wish I still had. When I was about to graduate from college in 1969 I purchased a brand new Camero SS, then a couple of years later children came into the picture and we needed a bigger car. Then later I had a VW Camper van (or whatever they called them). We loved it, but I jumped at a trade with a friend for a 72 Opel GT. Great car, but a couple of years later I traded it for a Fiat 850 Sport Coupe. Worst vehicle I ever had. I am not allowed to say the word "Fiat" in front of my bride.......

From 1991 to 1999 I owned a little Chevy S-10 pickup (not the extended cab model), with a short/wide bed. Dark blue, with black interior and nice chrome rims. Added a few items such as a large toolbox, full-size spare tire, and a nice stereo system. My total investment was $9,100. It had the large inline 6-cylinder engine, with a 5-speed manual transmission... and in first gear, it could drag a brick building from Edmond all the way to Lawton! :burnout:

It was really utilitarian and affordable. It was inexpensive to tag/insure/fuel... and it was FUN to drive (tight steering that would put it anywhere I wanted it!). I bought it with 371 miles on the odometer (a dealer's "test drive" vehicle), and I sold it with just over 130,000 miles, for $8,900. So I only took an $200 hit to the wallet over 9 years. But, damnation, I miss that little truck! I finally gave in to the wife's nagging (she has real political and psychological skills, insisting that I "deserved" a "better" vehicle)... oh, well...

1999 Ford Ranger Single Cab.

I bought her brand new special order from Ford after I graduated HS. I drove that Truck through hell and back and she never gave me once ounce of trouble. Had 330k when traded it off. She was an unfortunate product of a Bi-Polar Ex-Wife that always had to have something new every few months.
4.0L V6, 5 speed no power windows doors etc. Just AC/Heat and power under the hood. Exactly how I wanted it. The chrome and white walls were a phase I went through. Now it's black on everything.

We've had a lot of cars over the years. I don't have regrets about selling any of them. I enjoyed many of them while I had them, that moment in time is sufficient.

I owned a 55 Ford Country Squire [non-wood] wagon that I let my Aunt and Uncle temporarily have so they could occasionally drive it around to keep the battery charged, the oil circulated, etc. while I was in Vietnam. When I returned a year later I found that they had sold it without my knowledge or consent. That, along with their anti-Vietnam (i.e. anti-me) stance, locked down my vow to never speak to nor have anything to do with them again - a vow I maintained until their death.
