What to do with a couple newer chest freezers that need repair?

One about 5-6yrs old, the other about 2. One cools but won't freeze and the other has power but won't cool at all. I was thinking of seeing how much to repair the smaller of the two and keep it as a spare (I got a new upright recently). But I wanted to ask what you all would do. Maybe someone on this board buys and sells used appliances or something and would be interested in buying them for a fair price parts or repair?

Anyway, I didn't want to post them since they are not in full working order and I figured there would be some creative ideas on how to get rid of them (or fix). I do have a working washing machine though that is from the 2000's if anyone interested (traditional kind with the agitator and not the new woke kind).

Thx fellas

Sadly I am not sure they even repair freezers anymore. Last time we tried was about a 5 year old and was told it was cheaper to buy a new one.

Load it up with steel, incognito gunsafe?
See...that is EXACTLY why I decided to ask on this board LOL...I probably won't do either, but both are good ideas! The larger one locks and has the length for at least a carbine. I had already joked with the wife about using it to store stuff, but takes up too much space I don't have.

I sort of expected to hear that if I took it to a shop. That's why I figured maybe someone who knew how to fix them cheap might want to flip them or use them. The cost has really gone up on appliances even since I bought these.

My 2 cents

Chest freezers are relatively inexpensive still. For many the contents would be higher in value. Most would likely hedge their bets on a new one. I know of farmers who use them for feed storage to keep the mice away.

The one that cools but not freezes could be a stat, fan motor (if it uses one) or freon. If it has a fan and you're sure it runs / spins freely (unplugged) Bypass the stat and see what it does. Could be an extremely cheap fix.

The one that doesn't cool at all.... Could be a bad compressor. If that is the case you are better off scraping it. Any chest freezer worth a darn would not have a defrost relay. You might check a parts diagram to make sure it does not. If so bypass it. There is a chance it is a potential relay on the compressor. They are cheap. If you are not afraid of electricity... Google how to bump start / bypass it and see if it will begin to pump

In your momma’s bedroom.
I had a 2.1 year old refrigerator quit working. Yeah about a month out of warranty. Talked to a couple guys in the business and they said don’t waste your time or money. I begrudgingly bought the extended warranty with my next one.

I'd have them repaired, but that's just me.

I just had a 15 yo upright repaired. It's a garage ready unit, (there is a difference) and it was about $185 including the service call.

Needed a defrost timer.

You sure can't buy a new one for that, even if you could find one right now.
