Okay, so my google-Fu is kinda weak today. Years ago I read in an article about an early 80s GM vehicle that didn't have an opening hood. You had to take It to a dealer for any sort of service. It went over like a lead balloon and didn't last long, but, I cannot remember or find what model of car It was. I'm thinking it was an Oldsmobile, but I can't find one mentioning a hood that didn't open. Help me out hive.

Auto manufacturers did some squirrelly things back in the day. I remember my dad and the other men in the neighborhood frequently asking "what idiot thought this would be a good idea?" in relation to some feature of a car, but I don't recall hearing of anything that odd. An older OHP Trooper did once tell me about some vehicles they had back in the early '70s that had their hoods chained shut and could only be opened by the manufacturer, but that was some kind of special test program, not production cars.

You might be thinking of GM's EV-1, their first electric car. They were all leased, not sold, so they might've done something like that to it.

Yeah, I don't remember anything like that, and I would think it would be hard to forget especially for a GM product or any kind of production car, really. I couldn't find anything with google either, and I'd like to think my google skills are decent. But then I'd also like to think I'm a great lover... don't ask my wife! :rollingla

I have trouble believing such a car was ever produced, especially by a main stream car company like GM. Maybe a prototype, or some third world car company? Maybe a mid-engine design (although that wouldn't require a dealer any more than any other car, just maybe not have a hood)?

If you figure it out, I'd be very interested in hearing what it turns out to be.
