I changed them after the first electric bill when I realized I wouldn't have any money left for guns if this kept up. I only changed the set of 3 that are actually in the unit itself. Are there usually other filters elsewhere?
Look for return air grates around the house. If you find any with filters that may be part of the problem, to many filters cutting the air flow. You might also check your attic for torn ducts, windows not closing tight, etc. If you do not have storm doors, buy them.

My cousins electric bill was in the 300+ area and she shut off all electronics by unplugging them when not in use.
Made over 150 difference in her electric bill.

I loaned my son a meter and I made a plug-in adapter so he could check amp draw on turned off apliances and found the microwave was pulling stupid amounts of power when not in use.
He stated the power was the same when warming something up or when it was off.
That was odd.

He had an old fridge that ran all the time and was not super cold. Low on freon probably.
I got him a new fridge and his bill dropped over 50 a month.

His house is all electric and his furnace and outside unit is from the 90's and it gets cold but man the electric bill is high.
He decided to try brand new window units just 2 of them and his bill is 1/2 of what it was. House is still nice inside.

If the unit is not sized right or the condenser is small the electric bill will show it.
That all electric unit really needs to be updated to a heat pump.

No gas on the property.
People say the heat pump is not a good idea because when it gets really cold the heat strips come on and cost a lot to run.
Well an all electric furnace is what?
Same deal but running all the time.

Windows that let heat/cold in and lack of attic and wall insulation will show on the bill also.
Hard to compare 2 different houses.

You must factor in trees and wind/ sun blocks from other houses or structures.
Concrete surrounding one house vs one surrounded by grass.
Wood walls vs brick walls.. It all makes a difference.

Top of the hill in sun all day vs bottom of the hill with a river running beside the house.
Yea I wish I was fishing on the river from my back porch.

I will pick up one of those power meters and check my appliances. I have 2 freezers in my garage and could probably retire the small chest freezer and fit it all into my stand up freezer. I have no doubt that is contributing to the problem. Even though I had all of the same appliances at my old house other than the microwave that came with the house.

I have a Kill-A-Watt meter, around $30 or so on Amazon and plenty of other places. LINK

Plug it into the power, then plug the light/appliance/whatever into it. It has a digital display and will tell you how much power each thing is using in Watts. Leave it along for a few days or a week or a month, whatever, and you get an exact idea of what it costs to run each thing.

BTW I converted my entire house for LED's a few years ago, except for a few closet lights that are rarely on and then for a few minutes only. My electric bill dropped $50 a month, month after month.

It's time now to inspect all widows, inside and outside sides, for caulking. Check all doors and their weather seals, they are so easy to replace as needed. Will make a HUGE difference not just in $$$ but especially so in comfort. Make sure the fireplace whatchamacallit when in the closed position is actually closed and no air leaking out. Also you can buy foam gaskets for the electric outlets and switchs, you'd be surprised how much air leak is there. I found out the hard way that the outside faucets will leak a lot of air into the house if they are not sealed. These nowadays are frostproof and since the actual valve is 12 to 15 inches or so from the wall, it's so easy for the cold to come right on in through gaps in the drywall, etc, as well as power outlets and switches.

OG&E usually has free energy audits availble to you. Someone will come out and check the house over thoroughly and make recommendations, and often bring you some free materials and free new LED bulbs. My house had a dang squirrel get inside and that little $##$$# tree rat chewed into the return air supply ducting and caused a massive leak into what should be a more or less sealed system for the air to travel around and around and around in.

Your attic insulation may need beefing up. My house needs some more insulation in the attic installed, it has settled down over the years and more is now needed.

All these things add up and drain your bank account every.darn.month.

Good luck to you.

We’ve got an 1800 Sq ft house built in 2018. Keep it 70-72 in the summer with 2 refrigerators and a deep freeze. The bill is averaged monthly on an annual usage and our bill is normally upper $70’s with AEP. Our ONG bill is usually $40-50 or so

Ever tried changing the air filter ?
Make a big difference.
Renter just move out of a house, said electric was too high.
Asked him how often he changed the filter? He said regularly. Ha Ha!
Went to clean the place yesterday and one inch filter was over three inches thick from dust and lint and was whistling when running.
He thought you meant the filter on his Cable TV. Lol

With the water bill shenanigans in the past, I wouldn't trust Edmond utility services at all and if I could change providers I'd do it last week. Some people up there should be run out on a rail and coated with tar and feathers.
