got me there; i haven't made the switch to ryzen stuff so i have no clue what gremlins you might have stirred up lol.
did you use macrium or a similar program to make the windows disk image?
I use Macrium on my main system after switching from Acronis (it became major bloatware), but I couldn't use my son's backups to reimage. It took reinstalling from a USB drive, to get it to work. Basically after trying all the UEFI tricks I know and different M.2 slots with no luck, I booted off of the windows install USB drive to see if the drive showed up. It did, so I knew it was the install and not a hardware issue. At that point I had spent enough time on it, so I just nuked the partition and started over. The Ryzen line is the bomb, I just upgraded to a R7 5800X (8/16 core/thread) and it screams.

Just spent two and a half hours replacing my son's mainboard and upgrading his CPU. He had broken the wifi connectors on his previous board is the reason for replacement and I had the CPU from a recent upgrade of my system. I spent almost an hour playing with the UEFI settings, trying to get it to recognize his old windows installation with no luck. I had to reinstall it. Some days I really hate being the family nerd, don't get me started on fixing my mother's system on a regular basis. I can never convince her there is no such thing as free on the internet, she will install anything.

Edit: Not that this will make much sense to most folks, just needed to rant.
I get you. I've been doing telephone and in-person technical support for family and friends the past several decades. Especially after nearly a year of doing telephone technical support for AOL in the late 90's.

I started building our computers when we first started our company. It was the only way to get a decent system for a small company that was not loaded with bloatware. Built them from Win 98SE thru Win 7. The 2 we have now run Win 10 but started out on 7 and I resisted until they stopped supporting 7. No way these 2 will support Win 11 I am sure and no way we can afford to upgrade them.

I suspect Win10 will be around for a long time in the business world, a lot of companies only upgraded to it in the last few years. You can get some pretty cheap components that will run 11, but unless you have a compelling reason to upgrade, I would wait.

Isn't it funny we still haven't figured out the English language?

We call it the TPM module kinda like the PCV valve Pollution Control Valve. Of course them the thing would be the TP module and people would then refer to it as the toilet paper module like the Politically Correct valve.

As I remember the PCV was an antiblowback check valve for the crankcase. When it came out people hated it because it was associated with pollution control and thought it was just another corporate thing they put on an engine to kill HP. If they would have called it an antiblowback valve it would have not had such a negative stigma.

Of course, now it is called a positive crankcase ventilation valve so the nomenclature is corrected

Tech support: Are you sure you used the right password?

Customer: Yes, I'm sure. I saw my colleague do it.

Tech support: Can you tell me what the password was?

Customer: Five stars.

I remember it as something every oil change place tried to sell me a new one, every time I changed my oil.
