Vintage vice restoration done

What size? Those are great. The 5" has the pipe jaws too. Love to see a pic when you start.

I'd have to go out there and pull them out of the hole they are nested in but I think somewhere between 3.5 - 4.5 for the two I have here (one is a 40's vintage and the other 80's

Another 6" at the office (40s vintage) that is stuck closed.

I don't know what they called them back when they were new but I'd say they mostly resemble the "Machinist" style (NO pipe jaws).

I actually got it unstuck once and told the yay-hoos to leave it alone until I could disassemble it and see what was going on…. Left for lunch and they immediately got it stuck again. Used some 1” thick steel stock. Threaded on on each side something like 3/4 and used it as a spreader under the jaws. Was still a huge pain in the neck

Way fancier than my vice restorations. I just took this dude apart, cleaned it, greased it, and painted it black. Good job!

Sooooo you make it all pretty ............ so you can beat heck out of it!! Alrighty then!!
Looks great SF enjoy beating it back up!! I have a Wilton that looks its age other than it is well cleaned and lubed and operates like a dream. Had a cheap one before this thing, glad I got the Wilton at the price I got it for(free) and I will take good care of it but unless I cannot find anything thing else to do, which is not likely, paint is not in its future.

That is a very nice vice. You did well. I'm jealous. Super job keeping it in working order. They don't make those anymore. It's the real deal. Thanks for showing it. I think it's great. Look like a solid 6" jaw but I can't see the makers stamp to check.
All the old tools and vices from my Dad's work shed were stolen (completly cleared out) long after he passed and my mom was alone as My oldest was in the Military, my big sis was living in SoCal, other brother was off finding himself, other sis was living where her husband was going to school for HVAC and I was away at College. Some outstanding grinder's, Vices, and heavy duty stuff. He wasn't from Oklahoma but visiting relatives and he needed to use a power mower mom had so that's how he knew about the stuff.
His grandma wanted to pay for everything but she was on SS survivor benefits. She was a great person and all of us, without complaint, refused to take any money from her.
You know, I just don't have the ability to shut up and make my post short. You should be around me in person. It's brutal.

There's mine !! Not pretty but gets used a lot and it is a beast . Not showing the rest of the bench, hunting season bomb went off on it and thats my story and I am sticking to it!!
