I was forced into never using Fed Ex again about 10 years ago.

I worked for an international building controls company and made friends with the OKC head of Fed Ex. After a few months, he called me to ask if we would like to bid on a security, access control, fire alarm package for all the Fed Ex properties in Oklahoma. I and my colleagues worked on that proposal for a year, visiting all the sites in Oklahoma.

I wanted to keep it controlled out of the Oklahoma office but headquarters at Dallas overruled me. They crunched all the numbers and sent out a bid to Fed Ex. I saw the numbers and thought it was a very accurate number considering the amount of parts and smarts we were providing.

The day of the bid opening came and since Dallas was the principal, their senior business manager attended. I was not invited. Thank God too!
It seems my company did business with both UPS and Fed Ex. Well, Dallas' mail room sent that multi million dollar one inch thick bid to specifications packet to Fed Ex corporate via UPS.

One other thing I noticed about Amazon delivery. One of the first deliveries we had from them the driver backed out and pulled forward through my yard leaving a couple decent tracks when leaving.
Just happened Amazon sent me a satisfaction survey on that same delivery. I mentioned the tire tracks through my yard. Next delivery there was a small hand written note apologizing for the tracks. Followed by another survey from Amazon. Seems they were trying.

eta: Something else I just remembered. We had a regular FedEx driver for a couple years. But around the first of this year I met him outside for a delivery and to thank him for always placing our packages in a safe location. He told he it was his last week on the job because FedEx was letting him go. He said they were replacing all the current drivers with new ones at about 60% their wage.
Give the greedy corporation more tax breack

I think all fed ex ground is contractors. I could be getting it mixed up but I’m pretty sure it’s ground. I have always had good luck with fed ex. I can’t say the same with UPS. Several times I was supposed to get a delivery and they would miss it. They treat their employees like dirt there too. I worked there years ago and my cousin has worked their for about 30 years.

Ups used to be johnny on the spot. Now FedEx is more dependable for me. I had to flag USPS down recently because a tracking number showed delivered.foind it after the driver emptied the vehicle. It was shoved under the driver's seat.

I’m pretty sure FedEx Ground drivers used to be contractors back when FedEx and FedEx Ground were separate companies, but I don’t know if that’s still true after they merged. I know I’ve seen semi trailers with signs that say they’re operating under contract with FedEx, but I‘m pretty sure FedEx Express delivery drivers are employees, not contractors.
