Here's some pics. I finishe one vice 2 weeks ago and started vice 2 and 3. These are all old vices and that means they're good vices just needing some care.
Needed all 3 for my work shop. The painted one here and the other one I'm starting, are identical molds. I finished the one and it's ready to polish and the other one was in bad shape. The grey stuff on it is weld and JB Weld to fill holes that were made in it. I don't know why, but she's got good bones and will be a great vice. I'll let it cure for a day and then sand all of it. I had to grind the crap out of it to get the rust off. Got it down to the base green color so now, after sanding, I'll put on metal etching primer, sand, bake, paint, bake, paint, bake then do the highlights. The baking just helps cure the paint. I still let them sit for about a month before heavey use for complete curing. Funny because I'll be beating the hell out of these when I start using them, but it was fun getting them back in the game and looking good.
These old vices are crazy solid. You can get them pretty cheap but one day you won't. I quit buying new vices. The last one I had cracked when I was forming a piece of metal. Hit it with a hammer and it cracked. I think they're made of mostly zinc now.
I've been in bed since Tuesday and the wife was gone today after church, so I snuck into the garage and prepped the one in bad shape. She'll never know....HA!
First picture is the one that I finished a week ago. Second is the one I just finished and it's ready for polish. 3rd and 4th pic is the one I just started.

Man those look better than when they were new. You do excellent work.
I have a 4” craftsman from the early 50’s that was left outside for years and rusted pretty badly, but it was free. I cleaned it up and use it almost everyday.. the swivel was broken so I bolted it to a 1” piece of oak which clamps to my workbench. I could use another one but they are hard to find and when you do find them They are expensive.
