Anyone bought anything off Gunbroker recently? I bid $450 on a muzzleloader knowing the seller charges $45 for shipping, and the total I’m given after the auction is $535.39…WTH?!?

The seller is saying Gunbroker gives the total now.

I’ve bought a ton of stuff off GB, and I’ve never had this happen before. Has something changed?!? :anyone:

I was just having the same conversation with a buddy. I know for a fact they were doing it back in May. I picked up a Browning A5 and the tax was nearly 90 bucks. It's absolutely absurd that every time money changes hands, the government gets upwards of 10%.

And they charge tax based on the shipping address...not necessarily the buyer's address.

They also added a "Compliance Fee" earlier this year that the buyer pays. I think it's 1% (maybe 1.5%) of the final bid price of the item.

Unless it's something I can't get anywhere else, I'm done with GunBroker.

Ok, the gun is shipping to TX, and the seller’s in PA. I’m supposedly paying the seller, so is the seller responsible for paying the ”tax” to the govt or is he pocketing the extra $$$?

I have heard that Gunbroker is automatically adding the sales tax based on the zip code of where the gun is being shipped.
My understanding is Gunbroker get the sales tax money from the seller (if the seller was paid directly, like some would only take a postal money order) and Gunbroker sends the sales tax to the state where the gun was delivered.
But I don't know that just heard it.

That is why I am really debating getting my FFL when I get my shop built on the lot next door. We are in county so our sales tax is only 4.5% of items shipped here.

So as a buyer, what exact benefit am I receiving from paying the "Compliance Fee"?

I simply see it as a way for GunBroker to make more money and just redirect the made-up fee to the Buyer

Are you saying you haven't been paying sales tax on prior purchases?
