Anyone use a vertical barrel smoker? Been thinking about getting one. I know a guy that has one of these but just curious if anyone else uses one or something similar. Kind of getting tired of the ol Traeger. Don’t get me wrong, the traeger is easy to use and I cook some delicious brisket and ribs and plenty of other things. Sometimes just need a change…

I have one. I like it. Not good for short or small smoking sessions because mine runs best on a full basket of charcoal. Also trying to keep the temp exact doesn’t work for me. It doesn’t seem to matter though. It’ll run under 280 degrees for 8-9 hours and the results are great with everything.

I have built a lot of smoker/BBQ cookers.
I use an upright one with fire below the food and install a pan of water or steel plate above the fire to keep indirect
heat off the food.
Sides at the bottom have slides for intake air and a slide at the top to exhaust it.

My side box horizontal smoker cooker uses way too much fuel (wood)
I now use it as a jerky dehydrator.

I can stick one of those 110 V electric space heaters with built in fan in the fire box and lay my jerkey over the racks .

Excellent way to dehydrate.

I usually got the flat steel from the scrap pile at standard iron and metal.

I have an electronic controled vertical wood/pellets smoker. Put in your meat, water in the pan, set it and walk away.
Works great every time.
My apology,,, I missed the barrel part before I wrote this, Mine is not a barrel.
