I ended up seeing 10 bucks and 3 does before heading home yesterday morning. It looked more like cruising than chasing around my place. Bucks are definitely still on the move.
I hunted last night and had a doe with two fawns stay awhile. Later an 8 point walked in but had no interest in the other deer.
Similar for me at Bristow. I had a young doe cruise through with her tail up, but no buck following. A little spike stopped by later for a bite of corn, joined by a fork. They left and a little 7pt came in to eat. Finished the last 45 mins with a doe and twin fawns at the feeder.
I haven’t seen any chasing going on all season and cruising has even slowed to almost nothing since last Sunday.
Like last year at our place, rifle season opens and the deer disappear. Pre-rut and early rut is a wild time to be in the stand. I could limit out on armadillos.
That could just as easily be my area of east Texas.
