I'd think skid plates would be the best option, on vehicles for which they are available anyway. They'd make it hard enough that most thieves would move to the next easier mark.

Would heat build up be a problem though?
I have them all the way back to behind the transfer case on mine and haven't noticed any change. It was a thought if mine too though. There must be enough air circulation. And if you just did the section under the cats, I don't see how you'd ever have enough heat buildup to matter.

I swear, half the population is trying to steal what the other half is trying to lock up.
When there is virtually no "punishment" or risk for doing something like this even if they are caught, why not? If the owner is involved in stopping the theft, he is most likely the person who will be in trouble, arrested, out a lot of $ and possibly serve time.

There were not a lot of horse thieves roaming around back 100 years or so ago for some reason. We are living in a messed up world and putting up with it.
