I may be talking out my hind quarters here, but if a company has already reduced staffing to the bare minimum to start with - then it doesn't take many employees retiring, quitting or being out sick before operating hours are cut or locations have to reduce certain activities.
One day last week, shopping carts were turned upside down and placed in front of both drive through lanes at Walgreens (drive thru closed).
This was around 5 p.m. on a weekday.
The parking lot was plumb full. No surprise. I guess everybody went inside to get their prescriptions.

Yeah ... That ain't just at Marriott hotels or down south ... Much as I liked my job -- and the money -- there are some things I simply am not capable of doing any longer. I am just thankful I have the ability to walk away from my job. Lots of people I worked with couldn't do that -- and are being horribly mistreated by management who sit in their office complaining all day and hit the road home at 4:59 pm. **** runs downhill ... The pandemic certainly hasn't changed that rule of physics. 😐

What I'm fixing to say here is simply gossip because I was gone before this happened -- but apparently even with a positive covid diagnosis people are still working in certain areas of the hospitality industry. Because management "condones" it. Which is code for if your ass is on the schedule you BETTER be there. Because if management comes in and works while they are sick with Covid (allegedly -- what hourly employee is gonna ask to see that test result??) then you can too.

******* auto correct. 😠
I believe this. Our granddaughter was working a just out of high school job at one of the Edmond restaurants last year. She got COVID-19 and the restaurant insisted that she, and others who had came down sick, to still report to work because they were short-handed. Our daughter told them that was irresponsible and quit work that same day.

Good for her!! It's easy for me to say now (plus there are options now that we never dreamed of when we were her age) but I'm exploring wfh opportunities now. I'm not gonna destroy what's left of my health so a bunch of foreigners and aholes in upper management can ... Well ... Hmmmm ... I should stop here.

Here, but occasionally There.
Time will tell, but when we worked our Summer gig in Alabama last year (late April to early November) we were staying in hotels and very few left us with the feeling that they were dirty. We just wonder what they will be like for this year's Summer job.

The email I received said they were short staffed. They aren't 'afraid of the virus' as some of you say. You have to have a full staff to run the lobby.
Tinker has been an exceptional institution to me and my family. I can bank on line or drive through if I have to do any banking... I only use them to get Cashiers checks and deposit other checks - and can do that in the drive through...
Also, use them for my notary public needs... otherwise I hope they get through this situation...

Keep in mind that starting today many companies are implementing the new OSHA mandates for businesses with more than 100 employees.

The McDonald's and Sonic on Santa Fe in Edmond were both closed down at 7:30 last night. Crazy

Guitar Center is too. Note on the door says due to lack of employees who aren't sick.

Unfortunately, a lot has changed since last summer. I travel some and am seeing it all over the state of OK and TX.

Tinker walk in lobby is open and avaialble, you just have to make an appointment with them.

Hotels? I spent 3 days at a nice Hilton in Dallas 2 weeks ago. Their staffing, and customers, is pretty much gone.

I always stay at this particular one, they've always had customers all over the place, busy restauarant, etc, and they had valet parking and a bellhop.

I asked the front desk where was the valet parking people, she said they were all gone now, but if I gave her a few minutes she would go park my car. She did, and later she brought it back to the front door.

Hospitality Industry is being hit hard with short staffing, etc. Unfortunately, they can't just shut the doors if the staff doesn't show up. I know many GM's, sales staff, etc that don't normally work the desk or breakfast that are doing just that. I know there are good and bad ones. Even before Covid. Been selling to them for the past 16 years. Just deal with OKC metro, Tulsa metro and Stillwater now but the market is there and seems to be growing. Only problem is no staff to run them. Most properties don't even offer daily housekeeping except on request. I'm sure the restaurant business the same way.
