I have to agree with all the above. You'd do better, and be more loved, trying to teach your dog to shoot lol.

Now as far as her having difficulty manipulating some of the pistols you've tried I might have an over simplified solution. Don't worry about the slide manipulation so much. If she can pull it back far enough to check the chamber (1/4") and can release the slide catch after the last round in a mag; then let her run with that skill set for now. Its not a perfect solution or even preferred but it will establish some basic shooting skills and hopefully some excitement. Eventually she will learn to work around her handicap, find a new gun she likes more or build the strength necessary to not ask you to lock the slide back for her.

A few months back my wife decided that she wanted to start carrying in her purse because of a road rage incident that scared her. I let her try a Ruger LCP, but she struggled with racking the slide. After watching that for awhile, I decided that a revolver would be best for her. I got her a S&W 642, and I thought the problem would be solved. Nope, I watched in disbelief while she struggled pulling the trigger. So now I think that I have two options to consider. The first option is finding a SA/DA revolver. The second option is lowering the pull weight on the 642. There are mixed reviews on the web about reducing the pull weight. Any recommendations from you guys/girls would be appreciated. She likes revolvers over semi-autos so the S&W EZ is not really an option. After we have her something that she can actually use, I’m sure there will be more posts to follow about teaching her to aim/shoot while still staying married.

I can understand that she like revolvers over semi-autos, however, I would still have her try the S&W EZ. It is not hype, and after trying multiple firearms for my mom, including a few revolvers, the EZ ended up being the ONLY firearm she could manipulate without hurting herself. It might be a tough choice, but I would not let the desire for a revolver outweigh the need to use an easy to manipulate semi-auto. Better to have the firearm you can use vs the one you want but can't pull the trigger on.

I wish my wife was more like my dog in certain ways... Every time I say something to my dogs they get this look on their face that says my words were the most profound thing they've ever heard and they always like it when I talk more. They're always very eager to listen to what I have to say.

That's rarely the case with wives...

And you will tell her that yourself if you want her to know. :laugh6:

THAT Gurl gave solid advice. Only think that I might add is to sign your wife up for an NRA Basic Hangun safety class. Start taking her to the range and let her get get plenty of trigger time with a good 22lr with a manageable trigger pull. Let her develop good marksmanship before picking out a carry piece.

A good 22lr revolver or semi-auto is a good choice if she can shoot it well. Plenty of people have died from a well placed 22lr, in the end she’s just trying to break contact from an assailant not get into a running gun battle.
