Congratulations on your steps to cut alcohol, I'm happy for you. I can't say I had a problem with drinking in the past, but I could drink a case in a day then not drink for weeks. A couple of years ago after the failure of a business andpersonal issues put my family and marriage on the ropes. my family walked into a church that a class mate of my oldest daughter kept inviting her too(the kids dad was the preacher). I had never considered myself a religious man and went because I figured that if I can't control what influenced my children I could control who influenced my children. I didn't realize it at the time, but slowly by being around those living for God and a clean life I started getting my stuff together. Not realizing it I quit drinking (a year and a half since my last drink), I quit vaping, my language has cleaned up alot, and I'm not nearly as angry about anything and everything anymore. I'm far from perfect, but a completely different man than I use to be just 2 years ago. My wife and I are happy my kids are happy and well behaved. We have friends of true substance now that we can truly rely on if we need to, and they us. Church saved my family, marriage, and life without me even realizing. If your not part of a congregation I would urge you to possibly seek one out, if you are I would talk with your pastor about what he can do to help you with your journey.

If I could get back the time in my life I wasted it would add up to a bunch.
1. Time I wasted drinking,
2. time I wasted sitting in a church pew.

I was in a similar boat, I decided to cut alcohol out of my life entirely.

I have no mechanism to tell me when enough is enough. I've had two DUI and was headed for oblivion. Drinking at work and home constantly. There was no more middle ground for just having a couple after work with the guys.

Everyday, I thank myself for the decision I made.
If you are like me, then you cannot go back to having a few to get a buzz.
You will look back and thank yourself a thousand times over.

The above pretty much said it all.

If you are having serious cravings, you are addicted.

Have a 7Up and a Snickers. Go for a walk.
Tell yourself "NO, i am not doing that."

When I quit smoking, in carried 1 cigarette for 6 months. I would take it put, look at it and say No, I'm not smoking this.

I still think about it, at times.

I knew some have quit by switching to alcohol free beer for a while (6-12 months) and getting off beer completely.

Good luck

Here, but occasionally There.
While I used to drink some when I was younger, I guess I just never developed the need for alcohol on such a regular basis. Now, after hearing of a relative's issues with drinking, I am glad that I never developed into an alcoholic.

Our relative is roughly 50 years old and has two daughters from two different marriages. He is currently back living with his mother while he gets himself straight, and I pray that he succeeds. He told us the other day that he had been to visit his second ex-wife and the two daughters and realized that the visit was the first time either of the daughters had seen him sober.

Alcohol has a very serious influence on many things and many people.

Prayers for you, Sir.

I quit drinking alcohol 23 years and 3 weeks ago. When I quit I was drinking between 3 and 4 half-gallon jugs of vodka a week.

Every week.

If you want to quit you will. It isn't easy, but it can be done.

You have to want to do it.

You can't half step. Either quit or don't. I don't care which way you flip, but saying that you will stop until such a date - well, that's just fooling yourself.

Good luck.

Only you can make the decision to do commit to what ever you have to do to kick your habit or not when you are ready. I would suspect you will have others around you who will support you in any way they can. In my opinion you are already half way there by realizing and admitting you have a problem. You can fix the other half if you want to do something about it bad enough. Good luck to you Sir.

I have a very close friend who was a long time heavy daily drinker and smoker who recently spent a week in the hospital with double pneumonia and other health issues. Yep, forced to quit both cold turkey in the hospital and has been totally clean of both for over 60 days since. She has a very strong attitude that she is never going back to either of those addictions ever again.

Its been 2 years 6 months since I had my last drink. May name is Todd and I’m an alcoholic. Those words took me 4 days to say when I went to rehab. From that point on I knew I had a problem. The last time I drank was on a Monday, started my morning off with a brand new 5th of vodka and by 10:30am I was heading to the liquor store for my second but this time I bought a liter. When my mom came over to check on me I was passed out in my chair and It freaked her out because she thought I was dead. I cannot believe I allowed myself to be in that kinda condition. Then my daughter came in not to long after my mom did. They never said a word to me, didn’t judge me, they was just there for me. My wife was at work and apparently I had called her telling her I was done with it but needed help. So she called my mom and daughter. Even when my wife got home no one asked me why, or please stop they just sat with me all the way tell morning. My wife then asked me, are you ready for some help, I said yes. By that afternoon I was in valley hope. Best damn decision I have ever made. Every day I was in there my wife or my daughter came to eat lunch and set thru a class with me. Everyday!! Moral of the story is, don’t push away those who love you.

Dude my number is +19187292692 if you need to shoot the **** about anything from someone who has been there, please call me

I also went to Valley Hope in Cushing in May of this year. Did a 30 day treatment. First class place and highly recommend if you need it. Unfortunately Covid was in swing and couldn’t have visitors to eat, but the food was great. Had my phone so I could keep in contact with family.
You got this man if you want it! If you can go from a problem drinker back to a normal drinker my hat is off to you. For myself I know that’s not possible. I had to accept that I cannot ever drink again. If you ever need anyone to talk to or go to an AA meeting PM me. Good luck buddy.

So I may be in the minority here as far completely stopping but over the summer I had a wake up moment. We got a pool a few years ago. What goes best with swimming? Cold beer! One night I caught myself sneaking in a beer when the wife wasn’t looking etc. finally got busted and just had to lay off for awhile. I didn’t quit drinking but I definitely stopped for a good while. I still crave beer on occasion, and have one at dinner if I want one. We just don’t keep anything at the house anymore except for around the holidays. That approach pretty much curbed my problem but I can also say that I never felt like I had dependence on it.

i have more of a problem with moderation than alcohol itself. It doesn’t matter if it’s beer, coffee, or candy, I gotta watch myself carefully or I’ll Eat 10lbs of M&Ms or drink a case of beer.

Do what you gotta do to get yourself right Marine and stick to it.
