Bad Experience At Big Boys Today

I don't want to quote like 20 people but Gene Sears Inc now owns Canadian. It's been refurbed and there's more coming. The crotchety dude retired.

I think most (I know I am) talking Phil the old retired Trooper. He fills in when Ryan isn't there. Kinda gruff, kinda an ass, but if he's on the line, I know I'm not going to take a round in the back. I can respect that about him, but he's not always there

Yeap, me too. I liked the old dude that used to run it. He was always really nice. Poor guy seemed pretty shook up after the shooting accident happened there. Since GS inc took over the prices have gone up and the experience has gone down.

Just to be clear: Was the $60 FFL fee from Big Boys, Gene Sears or Canadian Range?

Yeah, they were high on transfer fees, at least they used to be. Back in the day I called them to ask what their fee was for a single transfer, they said it was $45, but it was good for a transfer of up to two guns. I told them, 'I'm only buying one', but they said it was still $45. I took my transfer business elsewhere, and haven't checked their prices since. Too bad though, they aren't too far from me. They are closer than SSP, or others in OKC, but out of principal I will not pay $45 to transfer a single gun.

Just as a note from someone that has a range and has been to plenty of public ranges (manslaughter waiting to happen) they are so anal about how fast people shoot and about working from a holster etc because of the amount of stupid found on a public range. People that have ZERO clue about anything other than what an action movie shows them. And it shows. Everyone here can likely go to one of the indoor ranges and see holes in the roof or on the sidewalls or floor etc from those folks. The ice thing yeah someone should have handled that, and sure as Crap shouldn't have been so cavalier about it. As to customer service, unless you are an ******* to me you likely won't find me being an ******* to you (yeah even I have my days ). I am a lot more likely to tell you that ranges need to be better or that you need to take a med class and/or a good legal class. LOL. But then my range isn't public, for all those reasons and then some, but I am pretty sure almost all of the classes I have out here are shooting faster than 1 round a second (based on normal human reactions/shot times probably around .25 ie 4 shots a second or so, 5 if you count the 1st shot as starting the timer )

Gun people are weird. That’s it. I said it. Dealing with weird people day in and day out makes you weird too. Imagine yourself behind that counter full time and ask yourself whether you’ll make occasional mistakes and/or let your emotions get out of check. The lackeys are only doing what they’re told when they tap you on the shoulder and tell you to slow down. That girl who has been so colorfully described in this thread is a person. She’s a person with feelings.

Big Boys have their issues. Here’s what I have found. Their purchase prices suck. Before I knew better, they purchased guns I inherited for 1/5 of retail. Their FFL fee is more than four times that of SSP.

On a positive note, their sale prices aren’t bad. The ranges are clean and they’re always monitored.

In short, Big Boys sucks less than most of the others.

The Ponca City gun club range has zero restrictions on time between shots. With provided steel and target stands, one can set up a steel challenge stage or a USPSA stage on their own and fire at will.
