Valued members, we are having a hard time keeping the spammers, scammers and con artists in check. If any one of you even sniff a little stench let the mod group know ASAP. Folks at this point I/we/mods would say unless you know the person or it is a known reputable business we suggest keeping all transactions to a "face to face " cash only basis. It is only a suggestion but buyer beware, we are being hammered constantly by these dirtbags.

We do not want to limit legit new contributing members with post counts but if any of you folks with some ideas on how we can help discourage these jokers please chime in.

How about a list of known scammers, locations, and identifiers?

Are all of these just advertising in the classified section? Do all have a onsey or twosey post count?

Do the photos look stock? There are several sites where you can do a photo reverse search. Tineye.com is my goto.

A few sites I know are for professional trades and require a personal profile to be filled out before posting.

One forum I was trying to get on was a juried site. It was a Chevy truck site. They had to put your profile through a board in order to post. It took over two weeks to get my OK email.

PM sent also.

An enthusiast will accept the vetting period. So many people who only post items for sale. I had one wanted ad posted but never received any spam but I was looking for something weird. Keep face to face as much as possible or have safe ways to send your goods AFTER payment clears. Scammers hate to try and fake postal money orders.

SigTalk https://www.sigtalk.com/ has a minimum 100 post requirement to post in classifieds.

I've seen other forums with similar requirements, plus the posts have to have substantial content. Not just a one word comment.

I'll ship a gun to someone with a low post count, but would never buy from such. I buy on gunbroker, but will not buy from anyone I can't verify. There are lots of desirable guns on GB listed by people with no feedback. No thanks. No matter how much of a bargain.

I did buy from a couple of vendors with a low feedback score, but I contacted them before I sent a check to make sure they were a brick and mortar FFL.

Another concern has been people sandwiching counterfeit $100 bills in between real currency. I always take bills of sale with me to the meet. The bill of sale has both buyer and seller named. Buyer and seller both sign the BOS. I check his driver's license and he checks mine. Just to make sure we are who we say we are and to confirm they are residents of OK. Yeah, I know, that last item isn't really our responsibility, but it's what I do. I peek at and remember his address in case he slips me a phony bill.

As far as the above comment that a member had somebody grab the gun and run. I guess I'm out of luck on that one. Unless it's Sleepy Joe Biden, I'm not going to catch him.
