Not sure on the paying up front part, but parts are still hard to get right now and they may not really know when they will get them. I’ve been waiting on some radiant heaters for a body shop since before thanksgiving. Fortunately the guy that I’m installing for is a body shop owner and is struggling to get things. He paid me in full, which I generally don’t do, but he wanted to spend the money before the end of the year. Crazy times. Checked on a package unit I wanted to use and they couldn’t tell me exactly when it would be in. 14-24 weeks maybe. Found another brand fortunately that I normally don’t use.

Push to get money wherever you can, always up sell. When you have finished up selling start the process again.

for special or electronic or items normally not stocked or ordered out of system I have been asked to prepay or partially pay. If I have a relationship with the mechanic I will do this. If not, will not. Been burned. This dealership is fishing for money. Likely you were overcharged on multiple items serviced. I bet the vehicle is out of warranty. These are all service items you could do at home or find an independent shop.

On my 2000 Ford the window motors were stocked by Ford centrally, not at dealer. Aftermarket by the same company who made them originally was 1/4 the price of Ford. Mirror? Junkyard find. Multiple years fit so it should be good. Learn to replace while removing from the doner vehicle.

For clarification, My son was texting with the service writer person and I told my son to keep me up on what's going on with his truck's maintenance and repairs. My son got a text from dealer saying his PM services were complete and should he order the parts to fix the broken items. I spoke to my kid and said yes and for the dealer to let him know once parts are in so he can bring his truck back. Son texted dealer back saying to order parts and to let him know when he can drop his truck back off. From my 35 years of driving and using dealerships I've never thought twice about prepaying for parts. It's a 2017 Gen 4 Ram 1500. Gen 4 Rams are from 2012 to 2019. 1) how could they not have a side mirror adjustment mechanism or a door lock actuator in stock? 2) if not it is a pretty common item that spans 7 years of Ram trucks not including these same mirrors and door lock actuators are also on many of the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks as well. These weren't special parts or aftermarket items. It's a bullchit policy and not normal for an auto dealership to require so they should have explained this up front.
Okay, so there's a couple of things you can try.

Report them to the district manager. Most car companies at least have a district rep that can put pressure on the local dealership to make you happy.

If they are a member of the Better Business Bureau, you can file a complaint. The complaint form will ask what it would take for you to be satisfied with the resolution. Put "refund the restocking fee", and/or whatever else you feel is unfair. Sometimes that works....

I have my son take his 2017 Ram 1500 to the dealership in Stillwater. The truck is still mine until he graduates then it's his. He needed a full oil/filter service done, front end alignment, tire rotation and he also needed the passenger side mirror replaced and the passenger door lock actuator replaced. The dealership is telling me the side mirror and door actuator are both on order. the door part is backordered with no date for delivery. The service writer or parts guy then tells me I have to pay for the ordered parts along with the services already provided. I tell him since when does a dealer require payment for parts that are not even in stock nor are they installed on the truck. He tells me "its policy". I told him his policy is phucked and not normal. Told him to forget the parts and we'll get repaired/installed elsewhere. He then tells me there will be a restocking fee for the ordered parts. I about flipped my lid. So much so the gal in the office next to me came over to my door to make sure I was OK. Told him again how $^&*@($ his policy was and that he could go ahead and charge me the restocking fee then I'll dispute the whole charge. He put the phone down and can hear him pick up another chatting with a guy to find out about the backordered part delivery date.

In all these years I've never been told to pay for a part that is on order prior to the work being performed and parts installed. Is this a thing now? You guys ever hear of this crap? Maybe I'm wrong and chewed some azz for no reason but this seems totally odd. Anyways, just a little rant for th

Wifey just informed me she is disputing an expense report for an employee at work. It seems there were supposed to be two employees and a double bed room was booked but only used by one employee. The hotel upcharged the room charge with a 25% non usage fee for the 2nd employee not showing up to dirty more towels and sheets.

The 1st employee paid the bill with his corporate card not even looking at the charges which are now in dispute because they don't match what was booked and there is no itemized bill for the upcharge. Four different higher ups on the employee's side have gotten involved to force wifey to go against company policy and IRS rules for expense reports. She's not budging.

Just for clarity, what should have the employee that did stay have done differently?

I used a corporate card for 37 years. When checking in they take your card. When you leave you get charged. If the 2nd employee wasn’t there to provide his card they couldn’t charge his card. Employee 1 now has a charge on his company CC.

I’m interested in what the 1st employee should have done. I care not one whit about their company policy but what IRS rules are they breaking?

The way the Feds work, it's probably the lack of an itemized bill showing the charge.
Feds pay specific hotel rates per city. Anything above those rates will often not be covered and the employee will have to pay out of pocket.

Also, when we travel and have a bill come due we're responsible for payment whether Uncle Sam has processed our voucher and reimbursed us yet or not.

Life has changed
If you are going to special order parts or anything you will pay up front!
What you did 10 years ago has nothing to do with modern times

Do you know how to get a driver License (Just the old style not real ID)
Some places you go by on a special day and time and pay an Appointment Fee (Around $5.00)
Then then book your appointment for a later date.
Some places have a web site that you can book & pay on line

Dealers must make a profit to stay business, customers are a out to get the most bang for their buck, it's just business! We bought a news Jeep Grand Cherokee in 2018. I have never been much for extended warranties, but all these new vehicles are so high tech, and expensive to have repaired, it seemed like a good idea to buy one on this vehicle. I have two brothers that are retired salesman, one sold Fords, and the other R'V's. They both advised me to get the factory warrenty from whom ever manufactured the vehicle. The Jeep dealer tried to sell me an after market warrenty, that he said was better than the factory warranty, 7 year, 70,000 miles I think, for about $3,500.00. I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawr but, even I knew the vehicle came with 3 year, 36,000 mile warranty, so all I would be getting is the difference! I didn't do this, and when I got home I started looking on the internet to see what I could buy on my own. I found a MOPAR factory extended warranty, available through MOPAR, much cheaper than the after market one they were pushing. We always keep a vehicle a long time, so what I would up buying was from MOPAR, the exact same coverage as the new car factory warranty, and the option I chose was, UNLIMITED MILEAGE, AND UNLIMITED TIME, AS LONG AS I OWNED THE VEHICLE! I think this was $3,000.00 if I remember correctly, $500.00 less than the after market warrenty the dealer pushed! A 7/70,000 warranty would have been much cheaper than that! It never hurts to shop around!
