Now some here are looking for a decent bolt gun in .223.
Savage Axis II was mentioned but I feel that may get laughed at based on what some of the
guys here were looking for.

I tossed stones at that .223 or 5.56 for years as I was in the 30cal heavies group and thought the .223 was just not adequate for killing the deer here.
Boy was I wrong.
My Savage Axis is one of my most fun guns to shoot and only accurate guns are fun to shoot in my book.

My first outing with my Axis with 3-9 x 50 Tasco sscope.

Loaded a ladder test with Varget... 6 rounds
24.5. TO 26.0 gr in .3gr steps. CCI 550 primers. Lee dies, Federal cases

.795" center to center group At 100 yards 1.5gr difference in charge weight.
Shot all 6 back to back single loading them.. one front bag no rear bag.

Here is another 100 yard target working loads with that 60 gr. v-max and LC 13 cases and Varget.
3 shot groups as fast as I could get back on target.

100 yards with the Vmax vs the PSP 55gr bullets.

This is a pencil barrel gun I paid $150 for and I have shot 3 shot group at 300 under 1".
With that 55gr V-max.
Those Axis rifles are very accurate and inexpensive.
I love mine and have no desire to try and find something more accurate as this gets it done.

But I do not shoot competition just hunting and plinking.

Here is a 3 shot 400 yard with 55 v-max same pencil barrel axis in .223.
2.113" group and 32.5" drop from 100 yard zero.
If I had something besides the top of my car for a rest and a better scope than a Tasco on this rifle I may be able to tighten them up :)

i purchased a savage hog hunter in 223 when they first came out. i removed the sights and installed a pic rail over the receiver. it is kind of heavy but i sure do like it for a tractor and truck gun.

Kind of wishing I held on to mine that I got last year. Bought it on a whim because the deal presented itself, and ended up selling it to an OSA member here last year to fund something else.

Did you bed in the aluminum arrows in that stock? Seems we talked about that. Curious?

I used carbon fiber arrows in the forearm and polyurethane construction adhesive when I was having issues with Varget powder not keeping the groups super small when temps changed.
I thought it was the rifle.
So I made it stiffer then tweaked the trigger a bit.
My trigger is NOT the new style like on Axis 2.

That stuff is still stuck solid in that rifle

And if memory serves, you had the tightest with some numbered Lake City Brass too? They are remarkable rifles with just a tad of work.
