Didya ever hear the original version of Hurt by Nine Inch Nails? Two completely different songs. I definitely prefer Johnny's cover better than Trent Reznor's original.

Im a sucker for the original but dont dislike Johnny's version at all. The one complaint I have about the original is how many times I forgot the final chords play at a MUCH louder volume than the rest of the song hahaha. I have jumped out of my skin a few times with that song cranked at then end.

My real answers would be most Keith Whitley songs. Most Johnny Cash songs

Pour some Sugar on Me, Money for Nothing, Sultans of Swing, (most SRV songs)

and the goat work song:

and the song that taught me mule driving calls

and since i could do this literally all day, i'll move forward in time since lots of people like srv. no doubt he was the goat urban blues guitarist, and imo had a very underrated voice as well. this is my favorite performance of his, if you know the story at montreux you know. he took this personally <michaeljordanmeme>

and since someone threw out some carpenters, this is one my favorite jams by them. criminally underrated group, playing oklahoma's own leon russel's tune. ignore the weird video lol, but the audio is by far the best i could find on youtube.

and for anyone who cares, please download flac files if you can. youtube audio sucks so bad.....

ah shoot just realized i deleted my first post trying to break them up.....

have to link this don henley song on bitchute because youtube auto deletes it. literally just tried to upload it and it was insta nuked copyright....(yet other don henley songs owned by the same company....aren't?)

https://www.bitchute.com/video/4MAt6AXUQqFE/

so before i deleted it, i said a song that stops me is usually one i don't hear frequently. and i like a lot of music that never gets ANY radio play, so i'll link some of those.

vol 4 of the asch recordings from woody guthrie are all cowboy songs that are really good:

and this oklahoma classic

i'll include the lyrics:

If you'll gather 'round me, children,
A story I will tell
'Bout Pretty Boy Floyd, an outlaw,
Oklahoma knew him well.

It was in the town of Shawnee,
A Saturday afternoon,
His wife beside him in his wagon
As into town they rode.

There a deputy sheriff approached him
In a manner rather rude,
using vulgar words of anger,
An' his wife she overheard.

Pretty Boy grabbed a log chain,
And the deputy grabbed his gun;
In the fight that followed
He laid that deputy down.

Then he took to the trees and timber
Along the river shore,
Hiding on the river bottom
And he never come back no more.

Yes, he took to the trees and timber
To live a life of shame;
Every crime in Oklahoma
Was added to his name.

But a many a starvin' farmer
The same old story told
How the outlaw paid their mortgage
And saved their little homes.

Others tell you 'bout a stranger
That come to beg a meal,
Underneath his napkin
Left a thousand-dollar bill.

It was in Oklahoma City,
It was on a Christmas Day,
There was a whole car load of groceries
Come with a note to say:

"Well, you say that I'm an outlaw,
You say that I'm a thief.
Here's a Christmas dinner
For the families on relief."

Yes, as through this world I've wandered
I've seen lots of funny men;
Some will rob you with a six-gun,
And some with a fountain pen.

And as through your life you travel,
Yes, as through your life you roam,
You won't never see an outlaw
Drive a family from their home.

the goat minor key cowboy song.

and you can't have woody guthrie without leadbelly. in fact he appears on a track with woody on that very album mentioned above.

I actually hadn't heard it until today; I went to check it out before I posted the Cash version, and it was not my cup of tea. I'll stick with Johnny's cover!
