EPA stupidity is rampant. The ULS is only a small portion.
Their spec or lowering spec has NO BASIS in science or technology. Gore has made $B in spewing his environmental GREEN B. S.

The spec for Bz (benzene) in SAB (soft alkylbenzene) was 3 parts per million for 20 years. SAB is used in most soap products. I worked in the refinery lab for 25 years. The technolgy was not capable of detecting Bz levels below 3 ppm. (1996) The technology today is capable of 3 ppm.

The EPA, reviewing specs (at the request of Jackass Gore) in 1992, sees them spec on Bz (Bz bad!) has not changed in 20 years, so spec is lowered to 2 ppm.

We had ALWAYS reported <3. Instrument could detect 3ppm, would print out 3 or 0.
I never seen a 3 on production, only on a standard.

Spec changed, we continued to report <3.

EPA run by idiots, regardless of best intentions.

Here’s the brilliance of a ********.
Sell low buy high. So he will actually cause energy prices to go up!

Biden moves to refill Strategic Petroleum Reserve

After ordering the release of 180 million barrels of oil from the nation’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve in a move to lower the cost of gasoline, President Biden now plans to purchase more oil to refill part of the Reserve.

CNN reported Thursday the Biden administration will seek bids in the fall to buy 60 million barrels of crude oil in the effort to begin returning the country’s emergency oil reserve to previous levels. The network reported it would be the first time since the early 2000s that the Energy Department has acquired largest quantities of oil for the SPR.

The President’s decision to release crude from the SPR, all in the name of lowering the cost of gasoline was opposed by some in Oklahoma’s Congressional delegation.
U.S. Sen. James Lankford was one of them, stating on April 1 that the rising gasoline prices were the direct result of Biden’s own policies.

“Apparently President Biden just discovered that the American economy runs on oil and natural gas. After attacking traditional energy sources that fuel our nation for a year, the price at the gas pump has risen significantly. Then Putin’s invasion of Ukraine made prices even worse.”

His comments came on Biden’s third release of crude from the Reserve.

“If Biden wants to lower gas prices, he should spend more time talking about supply solutions with the many US energy companies he’s alienated and less time glad-handing climate-change activists.”

After an earlier release of crude from the Reserve by Biden, Rep. Markwayne Mullin tweeted, “Instead of tapping into our emergency reserve, why are we not bolstering production?”

Rep. Tom Cole went even further, calling the decision by Biden “misguided, reckless and completely irresponsible.”

“Instead of being honest, reversing course and doing the right thing, the Biden Administration is continuing to undermine America’s energy security and depleting our emergency reserves in the desperate hope that it will lower gas prices. It will not.”

CNN reported the delivery of the first batch of 60 million barrels in the refilling process will take place in unspecified future years. Payments will be made with revenue received from ongoing emergency sales.

The rest of the story…

"Replenishing the reserve is absolutely the responsible thing to do. It shows they are serious about getting it back. That's laudable," said Bob McNally, who in the early 2000s oversaw the Energy Department's efforts to replenish the SPR under former President George W. Bush.
Yet McNally, now president of consulting firm Rapidan Energy Group, cautioned that the Biden administration's efforts to buy back oil will only partially reverse the drawdown in the SPR's size in recent years.
The buyback plan won't impact congressionally mandated sales of oil from the SPR aimed at raising revenue to ease the federal deficit.

The Energy Department says those sales total as much as 265 million barrels between fiscal 2023 and fiscal 2031.
"Congress has been irresponsibly selling the SPR down," McNally said. "Draining the reserve leaves the country and the world more vulnerable to geopolitical shocks."

The issue is he should have never used the emergency oil reserves to artificially and temporarily lower the gasoline prices an immaterial amount.

Now he’s going to have to replace those reserves that Trump paid $30 a barrel with oil that cost $110 to whatever it will be in a year. Probably north of $150 a barrel.

Filling the reserves is also going to increase the price of oil because it’s taking millions of barrels of oil off the already struggling market that cannot keep up with the current demand.

It's just precisely what I'd expect of Biden.

Trump added to the SPR during the covid shutdown close to when oil went negative. Biden has to do the opposite of all things Trump so there you go...

Did Trump fill the SPR?

“From 2001 to 2011, the stockpile increased steadily, but after plateauing for a few years, the number of barrels in the SPR began decreasing after Trump assumed office. On January 20, 2017—the day Trump was sworn into office—the SPR held 695.1 million barrels of crude oil. That number dropped throughout the Trump presidency, ending at 638.1 million barrels on January 15, 2021—Trump’s last full week as president.

In March 2020, Trump directed the Department of Energy to purchase 77 million barrels of crude oil to completely fill the SPR. Such a purchase, however, required congressional funding. The request was included in an early version COVID-19 relief legislation, but the $3 billion request did not make its way into the final draft of the bill that was passed into law, with Senate Democrats taking credit for its removal.

An initial round of buying with funds the Department of Energy had on hand did take place, leading to a slight increase from 635 million barrels to 656 million barrels between April 17, 2020 and July 24, 2020, but reserves began declining again the following week. At no point in the Trump presidency was there a sustained increase in the SPR stockpile. The SPR was not “virtually empty” when Trump became president, nor did the stockpile reach the 727 million barrel capacity during his tenure.

Drowning in crude, U.S. drillers say Trump strategic reserve plan is no lifeline

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-global-oil-usa-reserves-idUSKCN2251QU
“President Donald Trump’s plan to fill the U.S. emergency crude oil stockpile has become the centerpiece of his administration’s strategy to shield drillers from a meltdown in energy demand - but company officials and industry groups say the program has been too slow and won’t be enough to save them…

…Drillers, meanwhile, say they are balking at the government’s offer to take their oil because it is hard for them to move it from inland fields to the SPR delivery sites on the Gulf Coast, and because they worry placing it in the reserve could compromise the oil’s quality.”
