No, this was done in the interest of public safety. I'm sure lots of discussion was involved before killing it.

I bet the "discussion" included noted alligator consultant Troy Landry:

I saw some really nice alligator shoes in a shoe store one time. They were gorgeous, and I wanted a pair in the WORST possible way! But man, they were expensive! I had heard there were some alligators in SE Oklahoma, so I decided to drive down and see if I could get my own alligator. I hunted and hunted, but there just aren't that many alligators in SE Oklahoma. But I finally found one and caught it. But dang my luck, the one I caught was barefooted...

Only good gator is a dead gator. I'm glad he's dead. They're "majestic, amazing creatures" until they're close to you in the wild without a metal pole fence holding them back. They are big enough to tear your arm off, not to mention eat kids up to about 11 years old, and any dog. And during certain seasons they get so aggressive that they'll snap you right up just for being in what they consider their area.

Nope, kill 'em all. Let God sort 'em out.

Your statement can be said for all sorts of animals and reptiles and bugs for that matter. Pretty sure killing them is not the answer.

This is ridiculous. There was no reason to kill it. We do have gators in this state. Not as many as Florida of course but we still have them. If it wasn’t hurting anyone then why kill it?

"A spokesperson for the department said that because the alligator was too large to relocate, they are unsure of where it originally came from and they are unsure of the animals temperament to people, it had to be euthanized for public safety.

Alligators in Oklahoma are in the southeastern parts of the state, so this was a long way outside of its normal zone"

My take is:
1. Dealing with an unknown it was done for public safety.
2. Being far out of it's normal range means that not only was the gator unpredictable, so are the people around it that are unfamiliar with dealing with them.
3. Being relocated was considered, but deemed non-feasible.
4. The only option left was "permanent removal".
