From what I understand, the fires in NM are north of Interstate 40. However, going that route might just let us check out some more Utah or Arizona sights on our way.

Holbrook, Az has a volcano, ice cave and at least when we went through, a really nice, small RV park.

Don't forget the petrified forest.

Could do without Santa Fe and Albuquerque, though.

Been to the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert because both of them are in the Petrified Forest National Park.

Not in our RV, so only the volcano or ice cave might be of interest. We have to watch what is going on as there was a wildfire just north of Flagstaff that was on both sides of Highway 89, which is the highway we would be taking. However, that road is supposed to be open and last heard, the fire was pretty much contained.
