Seriously...come visit here in August...and realize the long summers may not be an answer to long winters. Other than that, OK is NOT a cheap place to live despite all the online analytics. Food tax! not even Cali does that. Toll roads everywhere. Income tax AND fairly high sales tax. Property tax is pretty reasonable though, especially compared to TX.

OK will definitely stay RED blooded for a few decades more than TX. It is pretty good other than that.

Oklahoma has, by far, the lowest cost of living of any of the states I've lived in...CO, WY, ID, AZ, TX and a few others. And some of those taxes don't matter to some people. Income tax, for example... Doesn't really apply to retired people for the most part. Property tax is amazingly cheap. Vehicle registrations are cheap.

The biggest thing, housing, is far, far cheaper than most of those other states though it's increased dramatically in the past year or so. But it has everywhere else, as well.

In my opinion, if you're looking for a place with a lower overall cost of living with affordable housing, Oklahoma is pretty hard to beat.

Respectfully disagree...but it does depend on personal situation. If you actually work, drive on all the toll roads, and are not tax exempt, and have to feed a large family, the low cost of living analytics fail to materialize into reality. Our food bill was actually a lot lower in CA and WA! Yes lower property tax is a great benefit, I fully conceded that point.

Work? What's that? 😝

We're retired. Income is from non-taxable sources. We both have kids from previous marriages but the youngest is 37. They all live out of state. Drive the toll roads occasionally...maybe a half dozen times per year. We do have an ag exemption for some things related to our property. Food is just expensive everywhere now. We live in a rural area so property taxes are low. Fuel prices are killing us like they are everyone else.

The weather here absolutely sucks, crime is up, weed everywhere now 👎. It is cheaper to live than most places it seems but comes at a cost imo.

Air quality in Oklahoma sucks! There is just no way around it. The jet stream has kept the wildfire smoke in Oklahoma for 2 1/2 months now. Then there are the other airborne allergens. Screenshot of todays smoke map.

Love seeing all these people saying "don't go to (blah)" for (insert reason based on nothing but their own opinion). Makes a great impression!
