...this image of galaxy cluster SMACS 0723 is overflowing with detail.

This is what I mean. "...overflowing with detail." It looks like the floor (or ceiling) of a 70s disco bar.

It's cool and all...but "overflowing with detail"? Maybe if you're an astronomy geek...

So I haven't been able to find the answer to this question. Does the Webb take color pics? The Hubble doesn't, it's all black and white/gray scale images that scientists color the way they think it looks like.........much disappointment when I found that out years ago. So all those cool looking nebula pics from decades of Hubble pics, all color enhanced.

When I had my 14" dobsonian telescope I could sometimes see some red in the great spot on Jupiter, but other than that it was all black and white.
You could put various filters on the eyepiece to make nebula etc. easier to see.

That brings us to the question; is what we see with our naked eye the "real" picture? We know there are light waves that our eyes can't see, so does using a filter to make them more visible to our eyes make it fake?

I never spent much time with filters, I preferred the "real" naked eye viewing. Plus I'm lazy.

They have color filters they can take each color channel at a time. Most of them are done via emission line filters like oxygen III or Hydrogen Alpha and Sulphur

So, either the universe has "always been," in which case the 2nd law of thermodynamics is wrong, or the universe DID have a beginning, which so many have pointed to scientific evidence of the "Big Bang" being that beginning.

In Isaiah of the Old Testament, Isaiah spoke of "the Lord spreading forth the heavens," and then in the 1920's, Edwin Hubble discovered that the objects in the universe were moving outward from some central point. Isaiah lived around 600 to 700 years before Christ.
I am telling you there was no big bang as predicted they are figuring out that it didn’t happen that way. Google it its out of favor now….don’t know how it happened but a giant explosion wasn’t it

Which is supported by various data. The galaxies all seem to be expanding away from a central point and accelerating not slowing down.
