I used to drink and drink is an understatement because I would have a whole glass of whisky with dinner, a 750ml of Jameson would last me 2 days. It did not rule my life I am not sure I would say I was an alcoholic because I didn't have to have it I just wanted it and I only drank at home when I was not going to be going anywhere and I didn't drink everyday then one day a 4 years ago I decided I didn't want to drink anymore so I just didn't and I still have a taste every now and then and I really mean just a taste. I have had the same bottle of Jameson that my brother brought me from Ireland that is still about 50% full that I will pour me about a 1/4 shot out of sometimes. so far smoking has been the one habit that I just have never been able to walk away from, so far this is day 4 and I am feeling pretty good about it and my coworkers have been really supportive I think it also helps that I never smoked in my house so I don't have to smell it when I am home relaxing and nobody in my house smokes anymore so I don't have to be around it at home.
You are probably already realizing a couple of things. 1) Just how nasty smoking is as a habit and 2) how big a P.I.T.A it is.

I've quit (really quit) several times. The first time I actually quit for 2.5 years it dawned on me how nasty ash trays really were. For awhile the smoke smelled really good though but I stuck with it. Them I figured one night before bed that one wouldn't hurt. Bam.. Just like that I was buying them again. :hithead:

And when leaving the house you have to have them and a lighter or you have to stop on the way to where you are going and buy them. I quit for the last time awhile back and the smoke does NOT smell good anymore. Seriously get some patches and lozenges for the cravings, they really help. I still do nicotine pouched but now if I run out it's not really the end of the world like it was with cigarettes. They are a ton cheaper too and no tobacco in them. I can do with or without them now and don't really care. One thing I know is I no longer crave the smoke AT ALL.

I have smoked cigarettes for most of the last 27 years and last week on my way home I just decided to not stop and buy any, the days do seem longer without having a smoke the first 2 days were the hardest so far I feel like if I make it a week I will have kicked it.
3 pack a day, Oct 4th will be 21 years, just takes the right motivation and yep that first 2-3 days was bad, but it’s been a great ride everyday, lungs are clean.
I hope you do well.

My prayers and well wishes to you. I quit 2 pack non filter camel for an e cig/vapor deal. Back to seegars. Brain injury, now can’t get off seegars. At least cigarettes make me sick to be around, but oh no not seegars. Now those are expensive. I hope I can get my brain right….

Did you ever run out of cigs and go looking through the whole house and find some old dried out cigarette in a tool box or dresser drawer? That's the person that's trying to quit! Wife and I quit in 1982.

Yep. Found a few too. Tool boxes, under car seats, dresser drawers, couch cushions....

10 years go. Started to feel severe fatigue in october. Got worse and worse. Back n forth to doctors. Lotsa bs. Feb next year went to the Minor er by new nw side hospital. Chest xray. 3 doctors came in wouldnt let me see the film. Told me to go see a doctor. Really?
I looked at the receipt when i got home. Said CHF. Thats familiar...on my dads death certificate. Wikipedia nailed the symptoms.
Went to Norman downtown er, they sent me in ambulance to 4th floor of the new hospital.
Stayed a week.
Better now.
Always said i would quit when i couldnt inhale. Mighty Foolish but been there done that.
Its like i read on these forums. You only have to do better than the face in the mirror.

I had a stress test done a few months ago they said my heart is fine and my lung x-ray was good so I figured I would stop smoking before those tests weren't good. I have tried to stop smoking a few times in the last couple years and I guess I just really wasn't committed to it until last week I am now starting day 5 and it really isn't getting to me but before now I couldn't go more than 2 hours without wanting a smoke.

Congratulations!

Smartest thing you've ever done.

I quit back in 2009 using hypnosis,,,
One session and while I still wanted a smoke,,,
The hypnosis allowed me to ignore the immediate craving.

Not one smoke after that one session,,,
It's been almost 13 years now.

Best $395.00 I ever spent.

Aarond
