I think everyone out to/should live in cities……except for me!!😁😁
Man, I was so excited when we got our 5 acres in Piedmont schools but outside of city limits. Nothing but a creek, some flood plain, and trees behind us. Plans were to build a reasonable berm so we could do some light shooting behind the house. The strip of flood plain between us and the creek was broken up into lots and theyre now standing the 4th house on, I believe, 3/4 acre lots at most. We also now get a ton of people driving down our private road despite a cattle guard and multiple signs, only to turn around when they finally realize its a dead end.

People should get a crash course in country decorum before they can buy land out here.

I’ve got a place where the closest neighbor is 2 miles away I would sell. It’s prime hunting land with a 3bd/2bath house, two barns and is surrounded by hunting club land. Big creek is butted up on backside that has monster catfish as well. Oh and a deep cold well, no dependence on government water.
The other place for almost $400k is not mine just someone I know that is selling out and more suited for “newbie” country living.

Had a bizarre moment recently while dealing with animal control regarding my family's 2 cats. I won't go into the whole ordeal, but long and short of it is someone complained about a cat in their yard and claimed it was mine, but it turns out to not be either of my cats (which I now have to defend in court...). But animal control dude was reading me the riot act about how animals, including cats, are not allowed to free roam. When I challenged his assertion and asked to see the relevant ordinance, he went right to the section of city code I figured he would....which explicitly excludes cats. After much fruitless discussion, a phone call to his supervisor, and his attempting a "novel" interpretation of said ordinance, he was no longer asserting flat-out that it was illegal per ordinance, but insisted it's not allowed because "you don't know if your cat is causing a nuisance or not". He still wrote the citation.

Oh how I long to move back to the country again...............

I expect the whole cat thing will be dropped once I show up in court, it's obvious from photos it's not my cat. Though now I have TWO citations, so I'll have to do it again in a couple more months (unless the judge is cool and drops the second one at the same time).

But....I want out.

There have been other issues living in the city, but this one finally did it. I've had enough. I've lived in a city ever since moving to Oklahoma 13+ years ago, and it's past time to get out. It seems like maybe the market is cooling off just a bit, but land still seems hard to come by. Would sure be nice to be able to step out my back porch and plink some tin cans, like I used to do as a kid (I didn't appreciate how good I had it). Fortunately my wife is all onboard with the idea, she loves the outdoors.

The search continues.

In the city cats are a nuisance and a scourge if they're left free. Too many people packed on top of one another. In the country, they're a benefit and if you're not careful someone will start feeding your cats better food to get them to hang around more. That's just the way of things. Cats don't care about property lines.

I hate when people get a job that make them think that they have the power to tell everyone the laws or ordinances, especially when they are wrong. These people have a power trip and need to brought back to earth. I hope you find your land in the country, we couldn't be happier now that we will in a rural area.

I “rescue” cats from town(lots of abandoned/ferals around the grocery store)and relocate them to my barn. They run off into the woods for a day or so then come back and live a great life in my hay barn. Helps me with rats and keeps them off the streets.

As far as your cats go, living in the country will pose another problem for them. Unless they're a damn smart barn cat, they will wind up being coyote food before long. Small dogs are the same way. Anyways, that's how it is out here in the sticks.

I don’t think it’s the coyotes where I’m at that had got all the cats. I’ve seen them scurry up a tree flat fast when a dog got after them, and there are a bunch of trees where I am. Me thinks it’s bigger cats. Particularly the ones with short tails, but you are correct; 7-8 years is old for a country cat. Most don’t make it that long unless they are mighty wily.

Where is this Oklahoma oasis, generally speaking?

Northeast of Perry OK, surrounded by Bluestem Hunting on east and west side, tribal land with cattle being ran on north side.
During hunting season you will see more traffic(maybe 10 trucks)but normal days you’ll see about 4 vehicles pass by, 2 of those are the same farmers passing by to feed and then heading home. Basically very few road hunters or dirt road alcoholics go that way.
