I have a buddy that just likes to stir the pot. On some job update form, for a place he had already been employed for years, he marked that he was Native American. They told him he could not indicate that, as he wasn’t “Indian.”.He said, “I never said I was indian. I am Native American. I was born here, raised here, lived here all my life.” He refused to change it.

Their corporate attorney got involved and long story short, the attorney said despite what the question and heritage was intended for, his rationalization was sound and they would likely lose in court if they pushed him to change it or terminated him for it. So…he is noted as Native American on their job records now.
That made my day!!! :thumb:

He is 100% correct.

When I was in grade school, I was in "Indian Education".

My family always referred to "the Indian" history. When I met my wife it was "Indian" or "American Indian".

"Native American" by definition could be anyone born here, regardless of history.

What about your ethnicity? Certain forms ask and one particular I’ve recently came across asks if you are part of a “group that has been discriminated against”.
Would it be fine if I claimed to be one of the discriminated?
Would my color matter if I did so?

I’m not asking as a joke or being racist. I’m asking seriously, if one can claim to be non-binary would it be wrong to claim another race to “get more”?

The reason I am asking is due to a application that is farming related, it is worded like there is more of a chance for persons of ethnic backgrounds to be accepted.View attachment 291535
The government is giving more money to people of color, other minorities and women to help them with farm or ranch loans.

On the can you pick your gender now, it all depends on who you ask. The last time I paid attention to this, there were approximately 200+ gender and just as many pronouns to go with them.

Have you done one of the ancestry DNA tests? Most people have little surprises in their background.

Somewhere between family hiding things 100 years ago, or someone 4-5 generations back that was part this-or-that but it got lost in the family tradition.

Well, it worked for Elizabeth Warren. For a while.
Harvard still hasn't demanded her diploma back and she is still a senator. No consequences for her at all aside from ridicule from the right. As for the average person I would bet there would be consequences.

I didn't do the poll because I think it needs some context.
I'd answer no if it said "Is it ok to falsely claim another ethnic background for more benefits?"
I'd answer yes if it said "Is it ok to claim another ethnic background for more benefits if you are biracial, mixed blood, tribal member, etc?"

As far as the fake minorities, We have a thread kinda on this already.

Someone else mentioned Rachel Dolezal already but her and Shaun King are probably the two biggest perpetrators of this kind of fraud with Liz Warren following a close third. The only difference is Warren admitted she's not Native although she used it to her advantage. The other two still maintain that they have misplaced black fathers or some such garbage.
