I’m in the business.

A manufacturer CANNOT void warranty, period. Warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship on the part of the manufacturer.

The manufacturer can only deny warranty if a failure is due to something other than a defect in materials and workmanship on the part of the manufacturer.

I’ve heard this for years, it’s untrue. I’ve modified Vettes, pickups, Porches, etc.

They cannot void the warranty unless they can prove a modification caused the failure in question.

That being said, they can try what they want and you have the option to sue.

They will lose if a denial is related to a defect in materials and workmanship on the part of the manufacturer.

Buy a Vette, sell it, make a profit and dare them to deny the warranty. You’ll make twice the profit and have some fun in the process!

Dealers are doing the same thing. I’ve seen used stingrays selling at dealers for more than the Z06 msrp. These corporate people have lost their minds if they think they can control the used market.

If someone flipped it and made money, then maybe GM should be charging more. Telling someone what they can and cannot do with their own property without having an agreement before hand is not right.
That’s the automaker’s whole point. If you close the sale you agreed to their terms.

My daughter’s MIL had a similar beef with the local Range Rover dealer. She agreed to buy a new one. When they found out she was paying in cash they backtracked. She threatened to take her cash to Dallas and they relented but made her sign one of these agreements that she wouldn’t flip it. She wasn’t going to flip it, she just wanted the SUV. I’d have paid to have been there when they backtracked on her. I bet it was a good show.

ETA: v98roadie is very likely correct on the warranty part, but they could get you on a monetary breach of contract. Know the fine print...
