Someone will argue that a CZ 75 is a 1911 platform gun?? THAT would be an interesting conversation....

The CZ is not a 1911 platform. DA first round, the rails are different, no grip safety, and no barrel bushing. They are great pistols just not 1911.

It's still a Browning design. Sisters, for sure.
I read somewhere that JMB wasn't happy with the 1911 and immediately began work on what he considered was the perfect pistol, the Hi Power. And a CZ is definitely a clone of that.

I'm an unapologetic 1911 guy. They fit my hands, point well, and I just plain shoot them better than any other platform.

I've had Kimber, Sig, S&W, Springfield, Ruger and just inherited my Dad's old "Combat Commander" as he called it. All steel, series 70. I haven't shot it (Dad may have put an entire magazine through it once). It's damn near new from the looks of it and I have zero idea how old it is. I remember he got it in a trade around 1984. The "box" is two pieces of styrofoam and a thin cardboard "wood look" sleeve with the Colt logo.

I can't say I've shot a Colt much, if at all. But, my Springfields have been great. One is a Mil-Spec and the other is the Emissary. The Emissary is one fine pistol. The Mil Spec is entry level, but well put together.

Just picked up a Staccato P Duo today. I'll let you guys (and gals) know whether or not it sucks.

I have a Colt Combat Commander that Austin Behlert worked his magic on back in the day. Calling it a “great gun” would be an understatement. Few years back, I bought a Colt 1911 called their “Concealed Carry Government” model. Great gun but the ”blued” finish looked like they used water colors. I also have a Dan Wesson 1911 ”Valor”. Out of the box … absolutely perfect.

Any “review” of 1911 that doesn’t include a test firing is basically a comparison of cosmetic features. Hilton Yam of 10-8 Performance has a standard series of tests that he runs a 1911 through that will shake out how well the gun will really run.

Well good for Hilton Yam. This wasn't meant to be a true "review" of these two guns. Maybe you missed this part:

Since the price of these two guns is nearly identical I was curious how they compared. Not just the features and apparent quality, but the subjective things, such as overall "feel". I thought it might be interesting to give them both a detailed, side-by-side look.

If you'd like to provide some ammo I'll be more than happy to give you a performance comparison between the two guns.

I second your comment on the Springfield Emissary. Almost a custom, upper and lower hand fitted and hand numbered/engraved.

I wouldn’t exactly call the CZ 75 a Hi-Power clone. The Hi-Power was the inspiration for it when it was designed by the Koucky brothers in then Soviet-controlled Czechoslovakia back in 1975, but it’s definitely not a clone. Usually clones have parts interchangeable with the original and these two guns have no interchangeable parts. On CZs, the slide actually rides inside the frame rails which is not a feature of the Hi-Power. The Hi-Power is also SAO with a magazine disconnect and the CZ is DA/SA. The grips feel different too. I’d honestly say that they’re two entirely different guns.

Maybe you need a couple of Midol. Don’t take my comment personally. It wasn’t meant that way.

My comment was a general comment that most reviews lack any true discussion of how the guns actually perform in the real world. I mention Hilton’s testing procedure becuase it will give you a realistic idea of how that gun functions.
