If you put it out there in public, it's perfectly fair for me to learn whatever I can about you from it.
I can see that side of this question, but what about your mail, you back account on line, what about you health records, and other things I can't think of right now? I guess a line would have to be drawn somewhere as to what is private and what is public info?

When you post it in a public forum like facebook, instagram, twitter or OSA it becomes public information and I can use it to learn about you, if for example you're asking me for a job. Or any reason really. I never spoke about private information. But once you make it public, you can't complain that someone looked at it and used it.

As I told my former employer, Sun Oil Company, 20 years ago, you can't afford me! I understand what your saying, but we are all forced to do ALL our business on the internety, I know we have pass words ect. to protect this info. suposedly, But I still think it will be a ongoing problem! At the same time, no one wants to go back to the old way?

You think that saying things here would hide them? Data here can super easily be correlated with any other history across the net.
I have been kicked off just about every public forum, I guess that freedom of the internet only applies if you say what your are told is, politically correct? If my post are used in hiring, I'm in big trouble if I have to go back to work!

What freedom of the internet are you talking about??? There's no freedom of the internet.

The closest thing that there is to a conceptual "freedom of the internet" was the concept of net neutrality. Ajit Pai and the FCC killed that in 2017.

"password" = you are talking about private information

I did not mention private information. I literally said, "if you put it out in public..."

You're arguing with a ghost.

Personally I would not hire anyone who posts personal information on social media. I don’t have any social media and I don’t trust people who do. The only caveat to this is people who conduct their business on social media.

Almost every recruiter and supervisor will research you on social media now in days. It’s crazy to post political and/or religious opinions online and then not expect people to judge you based on how your represent yourself.

I will say I’ve had potential employers express their hesitation with hiring me based on the fact I don’t have social media.

this. the whole "i don't have one" is worse than having one filled with non work related things (imagine...).

they think you are REALLY weird if you don't have 3,000 pictures of yourself online.

The problem with businesses surveying social media records for personal information about persons whom have applied for employment is that it opens the door for illegal discrimination by those whom are tasked with selecting new employees: religious beliefs, sexual orientation, marital status, or other protected classes.
