Engine locked up?

My nephew has an 07 silverado w/4.8ltr. I think the motor might be locked up. I put a socket and 1/2" breaker bar on the crank shaft bolt and couldn't get the motor to budge. At first the bolt tightened just a touch and then I had a pretty good bow on the bar. Locked up?

Sounds like it. Pull the plugs and try again to make sure it's not hydraulically locked due to a massive fuel or coolant leak into the cylinders.

^^^This. Also, try to go the opposite direction. You could have a bent/dropped valve that is obstructing a piston.

over 200 foot pounds on that front bolt and it only takes about 25 foot pounds to turn an LS engine over.

I have seen stacked bearings in trucks and the cause is low rpm and loading the engine.
Used to to pull a load engines were turning 2500+ rpm.
These OD transmissions and highway ish gears really drop the RPM and it plays heck on main bearings.

Thank you guys. It has appx 190k miles and I put a lot of torque on it. Granted I'm not as strong as I once was. Man, that was hard to say.

Further information I received is that the transmission would shift before it died. Could that have something to do w/it? I can turn the drive shaft by hand when in gear. Yes, with the rear wheels off the ground.

When you say died, what are you talking about specifically? Crank no start? No crank? Dead battery hammering the solenoid then nothing? DRT, Dead Right There? No dash lights, no clicking when key is turned? What?

unless you are lucky and the starter is locked up on the flywheel.. ive seen that before

Oops, it was supposed to say not shift. It was a drt. Tapped on starter but it would just click one time. I’ll drop the starter and see what that does.
